How well do you know the travel options in India?

I'm looking for someone to help me with a massive India travel project, it's a commercial project and the person will share in any profit if the project is successful.

I don't necessarily need the person with the most knowledge, just someone who thinks the same way I do regarding travel from A to B.

But the person does need the ability to see a list of destinations and automatically know the best route to see all those places.

Have a look at the following....

Quote:
I have to arrive in Mumbai and depart from Chennai, I don’t want to fly and would prefer as many overnight trains as possible, I want to visit : -

Varkala
Hampi
Madurai
Ooty
Goa
Bangalore
Backwater cruise

Can you suggest a route and give brief travel details?
Quote:
I want to arrive and depart from Delhi and visit: -

Jodhpur, Golden Temple, Udaipur, Taj Mahal, Rishikesh, Ajmer, Bikaner.

I only want to use trains for long distance travel.

Can you suggest a route and give brief travel details?
Quote:
I want to arrive and depart from Kolkata and visit: -

Varanasi
Darjeeling
Raipur
Kaziranga
Bandhavgarh
Kamakya

I only want to take one flight.

Can you suggest a route and give brief travel details?
Quote:
I’ve got 4 weeks, I have to arrive and depart from the same city, I want to…

visit a submarine
Get my hair cut at one of the busiest temples in India
See some caves
Meet a friend at the Broadlands hotel
Spend a week on a tropical Island
See some sand artists
Visit a world famous cricket ground
See a tribal town

I only want to take one flight.

Can you suggest a route and give brief travel details?
If you can suggest a route for the 4 tours above, send me a private message with the details.

Not the full details, just....the route you think is best and if you think a day train, overnight train, flight or bus is the best way to get between each place.

There are no correct answers, I just want to find someone who thinks the same was I do, this requirement is essential for the project to succeed.

Safety, comfort, time, & budget(for me in that order ... others not!) are factors that weigh heavily in route selection for many travellers. Not at liberty to help directly on this but if I were plugging into a "smart-route-selector database" I would want to be able to "weight" my queries with my travel "concerns de jour".

Best of luck in your project.

no itinerary can be put together without knowing about the client, isn't it?

Dear client:
How many people in your party?
What is your time frame?
What is your budget?
What level of comfort are you expecting?
What is your prefered mode of travel?
Have you traveled in India before, or any siimilar country?

Kindly supply the detail to these questions and I will be most happy to arrange an itinerary to delight you.

Yes, this is one way of looking at the issue. The other way is to prepare a readymade intinerary and let the perspective client decide to take it, modify it to suit his requirements or leave it altogether

it would help if you give the full schedule. For Raipur from Varansi take an early morning train to Kanpur and from there take the Kanpur-Durg express which is weekly twice. It will help if you avoid the Sarnath like plague as it is late and crowded. The kanpur-durg express is a good train to travel.

Steven was away for a few days.

We haven't seen him much this week --- I expect he's catching up.

For anyone confused about the following 'puzzle'.....

Quote:
I’ve got 4 weeks, I have to arrive and depart from the same city, I want to…

visit a submarine
Get my hair cut at one of the busiest temples in India
See some caves
Meet a friend at the Broadlands hotel
Spend a week on a tropical Island
See some sand artists
Visit a world famous cricket ground
See a tribal town

I only want to take one flight.

Can you suggest a route and give brief travel details?
visit a submarine (Vizag)
Get my hair cut at one of the busiest temples in India (Tirumalai/Tirupati)
See some caves (Borra Caves, near Vizag)
Meet a friend at the Broadlands hotel (Chennai)
Spend a week on a tropical Island (Andaman Islands)
See some sand artists (Puri)
Visit a world famous cricket ground (Eden Gardens, Kolkata)
See a tribal town (Koraput, Orissa)

I only want to take one flight. (A boat and a flight connect the Andaman Islands to Kolkata & Chennai)

So my thinking was.....

Arrive Chennai
Day train to Tirupati
Overnight train from Tirupati to Vizag
Day train to Borra Caves
Same day train to Koraput
Direct overnight train from Koraput to Khurda Road (for access to Puri)
Overnight train Puri to Kolkata
Boat to Port Blair
Flight to Chennai.

I've received PM's suggesting other routes; these are equally viable (and arguably more interesting) and just go to show how we all think differently.

Sorry I meant the Shalimar-Howrah bullock cart or the Mail to Durg from Nagpur and then the weekly twice Durg Kanpur Express from Durg in the evening.

Lokmanya Tilak-Shalimar Express good for short rides as reservation is available ususally from Nagpur to Durg.

for vizag to Tirupati take the Bangalore-Kakinada town Seshadri Express and change to Ratnachal superfast at Rajahmundry and you'll be in by around 11.30AM.
Seshadri is at 20.00hrs from Tirupati. It is a better train than Tirumala and the scenery is superb.

korapur to vizag by deluxe bus
vizag to Khurda Road INTERCITY EXPRESS AC[daily]ex vizag afternoon 14.30hrs accomodation is avaialble.
