Jagdalpur from Koraput
Jagdalpur from Koraput
Hi guys,
I'm planning to visit Jagdalpur in September from Kolkata. Initially I thought about reaching Bhubaneswar and then catch Hirakhand Express to reach Jagdalpur. Now unfortunately the train is running only till Koraput from 27-Jul-11. So my question is, if I have to get down at Koraput, can I get a car/bus outside of Koraput station which will take me to Jagdalpur? I've never been in that part of India, so I don't have any idea regarding availability of bus or hired cabs in that route. I need your help.
Regards,
Tamagna

Is there a reason why you're not getting a train from Kolkata to Raipur, then a 6 hour bus on the smooth roads to Jagdalpur?

Could you not catch the Visag/Kirandul 58501 which stops at Koraput just after 1pm while the Hirakhand Express will get you into Koraput around 10am?
Thanks guys for your suggestions.
@steven_ber: I'm aware about the route via Raipur. But due to the naxalite movements, all the night trains have been cancelled in that route after the Jnaneswari derailment. So if I take that route, I'll reach Raipur in the evening and I have to spend an extra night at Raipur. Can you please let me know the cab fare in this route (Raipur to Jagdalpur)?
@vinceorian: Visiting Jagdalpur via Vizag is a good option for those who are interested in visiting Araku valley. As I'll be travelling from Kolkata and I have been in Araku valley before, reaching Jagdalpur via Bhubaneswar will be less time consuming for me. Also, the Kirandul express leaves Vizag at 6:50AM, so to catch that train I may have to spend one night at Vizag, which I don't want.
Anyway, thanks again for your valuable inputs.
Is there anyone who has been in Koraput before? Please help.

Tamagna

@ tamagna,
What vinceorian suggested was you can catch the Kirandul train at Koraput itself. You do not need to start the journey by Kirandul from Vizag, since the train crosses Koraput on the way to Jagdalpur.
You can still start from Bhubaneshwar by Hirakhand, get down at Koraput, and catch Kirandul from Koraput to Jagdalpur.

@funny_in
Yes I can catch Kirandul from Koraput to reach Jagdalpur. But for that first I'll have to wait at Koraput station for 3 hours, and then the train will reach Jagdalpur at 4.30pm. The distance between Koraput and Jagdalpur is only 100km, so after reaching Koraput if I manage to get a car from outside of Koraput station, I'll be able to reach Jagdalpur within 12.30pm. That's why I'm interested about the availability of hired cars in Koraput as It'll give me a chance to start visiting the place from the afternoon itself.
And the funny thing is that, the "Passing by Trains" page (http://www.trainenquiry.com/PassingThroughTrains.aspx) is showing that the Hirakhand express is going till Jagdalpur everyday, but when I'm trying to book the ticket in IRCTC, it's allowing me to book only till Koraput
Have you guys faced such issues while booking train tickets?

All the answers have given solutions but it seems that there is a conspiracy against you..., take your own car and go to Jagdalpur.
I've been many times in Koraput and Jagdalpur andd things are not so complicated. In India is always possible to hire a car with driver(even in Koraput/Jagdalpur) but then may be the cost will be too high....
Another solution is to stay at home and leave the visit to Jagdalpur for the near future.
All the luck

Taxis are available from Koraput bus stand which should cost about 50/- by auto from the station.
Steven-ber's is the best solution.
Yes a number of people have problems booking trains.

Night bus from Raipur to Jagdalpur is like a nightmare. I did it four years ago
..., and still cannot sleep when I remember it. Well not that bad but a day trip is probably better because the landscapes are very nice and probably you'll enjoy more the trip.

IRCTC still has Hirakhand Express running from Bhubaneswar to Jagdalpur. I intend to take it returning to Bhubaneswar you could maybe do the following:
- book Hirakhand
- also book 58501 between Koraput and Jagdalpur as a backup
As the passenger train only costs Rs200 for FC you probably won't mind losing this. You could even try to get a car while you wait for it.
