The Ranch. That is the place in Spencers. but most ofthe stuff is from Malaysia/Singapore/Indonesia and even the Middle East. You could still find some decent European stuff too.

Some Food Worlds (grocery supermarkets) in Banglore had a section with "foriegn" stuff. I am sure Chennai will have abtter selection -- given the number of foreign consulates that are located there.

Arrow Foods

We had a similar fear when we went with our kids. Now they love enjoy Indian food (except if it is spicy, which every dish for them is spicy and they have an Indian dad who cooks everything extra hot).

I wouldn't pack a whole lot of western foods. The children should eat western food as a treat in India, which you should do on ocaasion. Plenty of western fast food joints available.

The other trick is after you have been there for a couple of weeks take the children shopping at the stores alreacdy mentioned by other posters. Have a budget for each child and have them pick out their favorite western type food there. By then they might be a craving for western food(which is all natural) and they and you can get a fix.

Eat Indian it will put a smile on my face as your tummy hurts..

I was looking for this thread. I am a Indian American girl who lived in Chennai for 6.5 years for college. ALthough I loved Indian food, sometimes I would just crave for Continental or American food. Food world is alright, if you dont mind getting everything "masaled"...like pasta with masala or pista/badam flavored anything...Yes its more "Western" at Food world, but it certainly does have an Indian flavor and when I crave American/Continental food, I dont want a masaled version of it.

SO......I used to head over to Amma Nana. Its the best guys! I remember there used to be all the American brands like Skippy Peanut Butter (Peanut butter in india is just crap, sorry to say) and Pringles (before it went mainstream like Pringles with chatpatta ) Amma Nanna has EVERYTHING under the sun. And Amma Nanna isnt spiced up indian versions its the real deal as you will find in Supermarkets in the US/UK/AUS. It works for finicky children and sometime finicky adults . So if you expats and NRIs want serious western ingredients (like Stouffers or Dunken Heinz cake mix) head over to Amma Nanna....but if you want Curry flavored "western noodles" then head over to Foodworld...depends on your mood I guess. hehe Amma Nana is located as Auntijy said across from Park Sheraton in Adyar. Hope this helps!!! Ciao!
