Slakhs, Thanks for the Mamallapuram Dance Festival link. A few weeks ago I booked two nights at one of the hotels there for mid January, and I was unaware until today of the festival. This will be a nice surprise for my wife.

My, my. What a musical evening it was. To be treated to 2 masters playing together was more than I had anticipated. Srinivas is an extraordinary musician, very lyrical, technically proficient, and, inventive. He created sounds out of that mandolin that were mind blowing. He is one of the best musicians in the world, bar none. And, what can one say about Trichy! Rhythmic, vibrant, seamless, and, intuitive, this was a concert that moved me immensely. And, to have the one and only Nick-H at my side explaining the secrets of Carnatic music to me, the only thing that would have been better is if he had come out to eat with us!!

December season is something not to be missed. It's a great opportunity to see the best in South Indian music at an affordable price and in a very concentrated period of time. Next trip will be based around it. Most impressive.

BTW, Nick, please email me as I lost your email address. Cheers!

Sure... glad you enjoyed

And I really know very, very few of the 'secrets' of carnatic music; I just enjoy

Some stuff already listed in my friend's site here. Keep an eye on it as time passes, but, most important, check The Hindu newspaper each morning when you get here.
