I am doing a bit of .........? I have heard from authoritative sources that the weather man in India can accurately predict the onset of the monsoon and its strength .But political forces joining with the speculators do not allow him the freedom he wants. They predict the extent and nature of the summer and winter very accurately |

I think that is not right.
It is this simple: South-West Monsoon will reach Kerala on June 1st --- give or take a week or so, and (like 2008) the occasional failure. The North-Eastern monsoon, as far as Chennai is concerned, is not such a regular animal, and nor are the Bay-of-Bengal depressions that bring us unseasonal showers and even cyclones. India's weather is like clockwork compared to the movement of depressions across Northern Europe, and the extent of the Summer and Winter high-pressure. This is modelled on some of the most powerful computers in the world; I doubt that India has anything like the same value or sophistication of equipment. I'm prepared to believe political interference or profiteering from almost anything --- but I don't think I believe this one. |

Hi Nick The South-West is the most important and it is the one usually discussed in all the papers.India's economy and for the South the rivers depend on it.It is supposed to start round about 1st June. This is the varaible factor.

And you don't think that the observations and predictions are given accurately and honestly?
I can remember predictions being given last year as early as a month or more before. Actually, I think that they were that the monsoon would be on time and normal --- which was wrong!, but my feeling is that they do try! Added to which, the raw information is available to all. Satellite pictures of the continent, and other meteorological data are easily accessible. Farmers and seamen have a long tradition of using both folklore and science, as well as listening to the official announcements; the government institutes are not the only sources of forecasting. |

a typical forecast by whetherman in chennai
due to low pressure in bay of bengal , 100kms from southeast of chennai , in a couple of days chennai may see from a drizzling to moderate downpour . if the low pressure moves in other direction , coastal andhra or coastal Tamilnadu may feel the impact .
if not in couple of days it may come after that . from light rain to downpour and speed from 50kmPh to 80kmPH . and finally it may have the chance to dissolve also in that case no rain at all.

Yes! And when, after an unseasonal three days of downpour, they say it is set to get worse --- we have sunshine from the next day on!
People are saying that this summer will be a very hot one. Who has Weatherfox addin for Firefox? I'm looking at a line of 37s for Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, and it's only early April. Probably means it is going to rain! ![]() |

Let the temperature go high. But the Electricity should not go OFF. So we should pray that we have enough supply so that atleast we can be safe in our environment.

Sorry I may be wrong to write those. I apologize.
I am trying to say that we should not experience the 'power holidays' during summer. |
