Thai Poosam Temple Festival Mylapore 7-9th Feb '12

Either be there, or be ...far away and avoid the traffic diversions, jams, crowds.

This is not a festival for the squeamish. The devotees will put hooks in the skin, skewers through cheeks and tongue (in the form of vel, the spear of Murugan).

If an Indian temple festival is unlike anything else in the world, this one is even more unlike anything else in the world.

(except, of course, when they do it somewhere else in the world: my experience of Thai Poosam is mostly from London Murugan Temple!)
