Tailors in Chennai
I am travelling to Chennai next month and wish to get some suits tailor made for me.
Does anyone have any experience in doing this ie prices, or a good place to get this done at?? Any help would be appreciated. Cheers |

I am willing to spend whatever it costs really, to get a good suit made.
Do you have any idea of the price range I am looking at spending?? I imagine it will be alot cheaper than getting the same thing done in the western world somewhere? |

I'm amazed at people wearing business suits here in this climate --- it is bad enough to have to do so during the few hot days in a London summer
!I have no idea if Chennai tailors can produce the same quality as some of the far-east guys are known for, but if I had to buy a suit here I'd probably go to Raymonds. Despite my life-long dislike of having to wear the things, a well-made, well-fitted suit is a real work of durable art and craft. Not sure I'd come to Chennai for one! Am I wrong about this, ISN? <a few minutes later> That's an interesting article. I know my wife has great difficulty in getting her salwars, or even sari blouses, cut and stitched to her specification and liking --- and womens' tailors are on every street here.

If you want a custom made suit then I will definitely buy it in India, but if I am shopping for branded suits then I will shop for it in US or UK.

I happened to see some trousers and shirts custom-made in some T.Nagar tailor's shop and I was surprised, the workmanship was good (as far as I could tell!) and very cheap.
But I think it's safer to have a pair of simple trousers or shirt made as a trial before you hand the tailor any fancy/expensive material. Also, make sure they use good quality thread for stitching. |

How does the price of ready-made in UK compare with tailored in Chennai?
Tailored suits in UK these days are for the seriously rich, I think. |
