Snorkelling gear in Chennai?

I'm sailing to the Andamans on Friday, I have a day in Chennai before this.

I'm hoping to put this day to good use, by buying some snorkelling gear for my trip.

Does anyone know a shop that specialises/ sells snorkelling gear in Chennai?

Thanks

I wouldnt think so, as you cant really swim in the sea here. And if you did, you couldnt see anything! Ive never seen a shop selling any sort of water sports gear, but then again I havent been looking for one.

There should be plenty of places in the Andamans selling/renting snorkelling gear.

Don't know about Chennai but you def. get Snorkelling gear on rent in Andamans. Rent for say 4 - 5 hrs will be Rs. 50. but most of them provide only Snorkel & glasses. No one provides flippers & quality of this equipment is O.K.

Ronak.

Thanks for the replies. I'd rather buy then rent, as I'm continuing my travels in Thailand, Vietnam etc., after I leave India.

I'd heard it was rather expensive to buy in the Andamans, much cheaper on the mainland, hence my question!

Thanks again.

I hesitate to say 'no,' but I don't think so --- simply because I doubt that anybody does it here.

I don't think this is the place to start getting pedantic about whether it has three or more masts, all carrying square-rig sails*
