Sharing a flat in Chennai

Hi to all!

Just moved to Chennai and I am looking forward to sharing a flat here with nice company. It seems to be rather hard to find an independent room and a furnished flat shared with one or two more persons..

I am not looking for any super luxury flats but would appreciate a clean appartment, nice roomie, kitchen to do some student pasta, living room with telly and hanging around company and some own space in an own room and a neat western style bathroom (which could be a shared one with the nice roomie anyway)and internet would be GREAT.

If there is anyone that happens to have rooms, is looking for a flat as well, it would be absolutely great to get in touch as soon as possible!! I am staying here for at least 3 months doing an internship and if it is a nice place sort of near spencers (less than 50mins away)i could afford 200-250 euros, i.e. more or less 12 000 rupees per month.
I'm a 23 years old girl from a small nordic country and as said doing an intern here, still a student though at home.

Moreover, I would like to get to know people here in Chennai, find company to do little trips nearby on weekends, take a couple of beers or even mocktails, go yoga etc.

As I read there are other non family owning people as well, we could probaby organice a gettogether soon?

Ok, hope to hear about Chennai events and life soon

And any nice tips, even though there seem to be a lot already in the forum, are welcome (how to get to feel at home here, how to be able to eat indian food ever again after 5 days in bed for some nice bacteria + other survivor stories would be nice)!

You could check out the dates for the next IndiaMike meetup.

You'll even get to meet one or two people who have been eating that food all their lives --- and only got sick very occasionally!

Most of Central (well, Southern really, but it leaves out the more Industrial north) Chennai is within an hour of Spencers, which, believe it or not, is a place one can get tired of, and I speak as a shopoholic.

Send a message via Yahoo to abhi182
You could try looking around on the Sulekha Classifieds (classifieds.sulekha.com)
It is pretty popular in chennai

The whole Guesthouse/hotel land of triplicane is not far away!

Then there's Thousand Lights --- isn't that a wonderful name for a district!

Egmore is a nice area and 15-20 mins from Spencer Plaza. Other areas where you can scout for include Royapettah, Nungambbakkam, Alwarpet...

Try 'Free Ads' a Chennai biweekly, published on Thursdays and Sundays, and which lists all rental accomodations. Getting a house/apartment shouldnt be difficult, but finding a roommate could be...

Triplicane is a congested area, if you are OK with the crowds, go for it.

Hi all and thank you for the help! I actually managed to find a flat in CIT Nagar which is considerably close the office- and quite clean as well
Now looking for the roomie, but that'll get organized soon as well, I will probably end up living with a local even which is great!

In case someone knows nice gyms, supermarkets, yoga school near Cit Nagar (east) pliis let me know!

That's interesting! I thought I had discovered the only one when I took a wrong turning coming from T Nagar the other day --- between T Nagar and Nandanam. But that is the only one in my Eicher map book. There's a CIT Colony near Vivekananda College...

Tell me, do you know what 'CIT' stands for?
