I orignally thought up to 1000INR a night, would prefer to pay less, but would also consider a little more for the right place.

Or possibly for the whole duration of my trip, as direct buses to Chemmencheri where the Institutue is located depart from Adyar Bus Stand.

Have you checked out the actual location and distances on maps?
The institute is -->Here, on Google Maps. It is a great way to get oriented. Depending on transport options, you could stay in Chennai, but further South than Adyar. Thiruvanmiyur is something of a bottleneck: check out the places on ECR (East Coast Road) to the South of there. Google Earth and Google Maps are great ways to get an introductory feel for a place. They are also aids to nostalgia afterwards too! |

Hi Nick,
Thanks for the link. I had checked out a map but this one pinpoints the location of IAS more exactly so thanks. My consideration is not just distance alone (I am used to a long commute in the UK, although I'm aware it is quite a different thing in India), but ease of travel by public transport, time spent in traffic etc, and in terms of where I'm staying; somewhere safe, where I will have a chance to have a chat with people in the evenings (local or visitors) and not feel awkward walking around, or dining alone. I suppose that's why Mamallapuram appeals with its numerous visitor facilities (also I think the dance festival is on while I'm there which would be fab to see) Anyway, I will keep researching and thinking and hopefully eventually make a choice - each of the options suggested have things going for them! ![]() |

Hi Nick,
Is there a way I can change the title of this thread? Just realised it sounds vaguely like a lonely hearts ad, and that is not the kind of attention I want to attract! Thanks |

Have to admit that I have giggled every time I saw it
.If there is still an Edit button on the post then click it, then Go Advanced and then you can edit the title. If not, click on the little red triangle, "report" your own post, and request the moderators (I'm not one) to do so for you. Just let them know what you would like the new title to be. |

Thanks Nick - the edit facility is no longer there so I have mailed the moderator.
I think my husband would not be happy if he thought I was going to India for dating!! ![]() |
