Hi Chennai People! I just posted a message in the new members section.

Nice pics there of the get together in Chennai..

Im making a trip to Chennai in July this year to meet my dream girl

Yeah its the stage in my life where I have decided to "settle down"

I havent been to chennai in many many years now, probably went there when I was a kid which was probably a good 20 years ago so I have absoluetely NO IDEA where to go or what to do....

Then again I want to surprise my girl by taking her to some romantic spots.... So tell me, any suggestions on places where I can "pop the question?"

Ohhh I love this question, my husband proposed to me in Madras (I prefer that to Chennai)..anyways, my husband and I got dressed up (I pulled out my gorgeous gorgette saree for this night haha) and had dinner at Taj Corommandel. The staff decorated the table with jasmine and rose petals and candles..very nice. After dinner he suggested we go for a "walk" I said fine by me. I seriously had no clue, I mean I knew we planned to get married, we were in the process of convincing our parents (we met in medical school)..so we went for a walk by the pool side. It was lovely, he had pre-arranged everything, the twinkling lights, the two chairs by the glowing pool. I remember it smelled lovely that night, the exotic scent of jasmine and bougainvilleas (sp?). We walked beside the pool area, and we were chatting when he suddenly got down on one knee and proposed..the moon was out, the stars were shining..it was pure heaven. It was also december..the weather was perfect FOR ONCE in Madras. I said "yes of course I will marry you"..and then after slipping the ring on my finger he kind of screamed "she said yes!"...suddenly fireworks went off from the hotel, I guess he pre-arranged this as well. After coming back inside there was a cake and candles and the entire staff of the restaurant plus many patrons cheered as we blew the candles out! All in all it was a lovely time and an unforgettable night..

other places to consider: This was back 5 years ago..now there are many other places to go for that special proposal

1.Le Meridien..its absolutely lovely....same atmosphere..but more spacious..consider this place..check out there website..maybe you can make a request..

2.St Thomas Mount...yea I know at night it can be dangerous..but at twilight its quite lovely view...its a cheaper option

3.Besant Nagar...I dont know..more of a aquired taste....and people will be watching..ehh..scratch that..but of all the beaches Besant Nagar is the best

4.Taj Fishermans Cove....gorgeous setting..on the beach..pick a nice cool day and take her down there for kabobs by the grill..and drinks by the pool..walk down the beach and pop the question..you can arrange anything you want there too...

How about a spa day together? Girls love stuff like that. A couples massage...of course its done very decently..followed by dinner at Le Meridien..and then dancing under the stars...sigh...I am full of ideas..haha...I should write a book..hahaha...Anyways hope this helps...Good luck to you!

P.S. remember ANYTHING can be done in India..especially in terms of events and romance...hotels love to help you out...just hand them the money..and things happen like magic..

I am very much in favour of the spa suggestion you have given with a follow on to the fishermans cove (i have read great things about that place!) since we both love the beach what better a place than that to pop the big Q.... mmm...... ideas ideas.......

The only issue is pikcing a nice cold day in July

Hey Pravie,

I got some information for you about day spa/romance packages in Madras. I was leafing thru my old cityinfo guide. I got it when I went to India in January. My husband and I got a couple's massage at this place called "Limelite"...its a unisex spa located at the Residency Towers, the good thing about this place is it classy and less crowded without being overly expensive. See the Residency Towers is a pretty new business hotel which caters more to an indian/local crowd. But the facilities are top notch international. http://www.theresidency.com/welcome.htm check out this website for more details....THere is no specific couples massage, we just requested it and they honored our request. It was done very decently of course as I mentioned....

Some other salons and spas are more expensive and I think since they are more popular they dont necessarily change rules to suit your wishes. Limelite wants to attract customers so they of course did what we requested.

Ohhh I just got some information on my Chennai cityguide. It seems the Taj Fisherman's Cove has specific "couples massage" suite with a soak tub. Please check this link:

http://www.tajhotels.com/TajSpa/SpaV...ai/default.htm

So you dont even have to leave the hotel after your massage. You can have your spa treatments, get ready and then go for your dinner and walk on the beach...All in one resort...How convenient and effortless for a proposal night! Fishermans Cove is older property but its still pretty nice....and the Spa Vyana is new so that would be good..Let me know what your plan is....Budget wise, yea its more expensive than other 3 star and local barber and beauty parlours in India, BUT it is muuuchhh cheaper than if planned the same extravaganza in Australia! Anyway let me know how it goes..and if you need more information..I can scan this city guide for you if you want! It is found in most hotels in Chennai though...anyways bye!

Thanks again Madhuri....... I think finding this website and getting feedback from all of you has been my highlight of the week!

I had a long webcam chat with my girl yesterday and ive been on since the interesting thing about all this is that this is in some ways an "arranged marriage" hookup but thanks to the internet we have both got to know each other and find out how compatible we are with each other! God Bless Technology!

Madhuri, I checked out the Fisherman's Cove website, wow that place looks good and im just about to shoot them an email and ask them about the...

ddevadutta...romance does flourish in Madras-I met my husband at one of those inter-collegiate cultural things and after that it was all ...and this was more than ten years ago!

Good luck, Pravie!

well guys the fishermans cove guys were SO HELPFUL! I emailed them this morning and they have got back to me with the following.....

Heres the deal....

Here is the link to some pics off their website!
http://www.tajhotels.com/Leisure/Fis...NNAI/rooms.asp

So heres the plan!
First we both start off with a 1 hour massage in the couples massage room. Followed by an hours soak in the soak tub

Luxury Villa overlooking the sea with its own private courtyard... Candle lit dinner will be served in our own courtyard. The Menu sounds GREAT! they gave me a few choices. We chill for as long as we like in the room

Total cost so far a whopping Rs 9900 for the room and meal and Rs 6600 for the spa.....

Will look at alternate options with the other hotels as well, but I dont think I can go past a nice beach setting!

Thanks for pointing me to that post Naya I have done a little more research and have also got in touch with GRT Temple Bay (http://www.grttemplebay.com). There overall charge for something similar to the Fishermans Cove was almost HALF! wow!

I cant imagine that they would be comparable to the Taj but can anyone advice me if this is a good resort?

grt

grt temple bay is a very good resort-its a prime property on the Mahabalipuram area -taken over ayea back by the GRT group (from ITDC- a govt co) and has been revamped and refurbished
Maybe a notch lower than Fish cove in terms of ambience perhaps but not in terms of beach access and facilities and service

There are others like MGM also in same area

thanks once again Naya I have also hunted down the MGM website http://www.mgm-hotels.com and have also just sent them a special request to see what they can offer for me. Isnt it amazing how easy it is to get things done these days over the internet? especailly for someone who hasnt been to Madras in a while...

All I can say is that my girls going to go nuts when she finds out how meticulous my planning has been...... hehe all thanks to the ideas that you have all given me here!

Give yourselves a pat on the back guys, you deserve it!

Oh and by the way, anyone planning on making a trip to Perth, Western Australia give me a shout and ill set you up Its the least I can do for you all for being such great buddies and pointing me in the right direction!

I will post another update here again once I hear from MGM. Maybe someday someone will decide to do what I did and find this post useful..... hehe

romantic spot

There's a beautiful (private) garden called ADYAR – I think it belongs to the Theosphical Society – with beautiful flowers and the biggest Banyan Tree of the world. For me it was romantic walking there in a lovely company. ;-)
