romantic hotel chennai Hiya, I want to book a hotel for the weekend of my partner's birthday. Anyone got any suggestions? I'd like something quite luxurious, suitable for staying in if you know what I mean! Gertie

That new RainTree Ecotel in St Mary Road looks very interesting from the outside. Also it is in a lovely, wide, tree-lined road that is not terribly busy. Not far away, but on a busier road, the Park Sheraton. But Chennai seems to be to be more into business hotels than heritage. If you want five-star, by the way, I've read that demand far exceed supply here, so book as far ahead as possible. Or go down the coast and be by the sea? Taj have a hotel (Fisherman's cove?) also GRT have. That could be a really nice thing to do --- and you won't have that feeling of being so close to home you can nip back for the book you forgot!

The Rain Tree is very nice, fairly quiet. Nice pool and a good restaurant. All fairly low-key for an upmarket hotel.

The Raintree looks good. I have eaten at their rooftop restaurant once before and it was lovely, but I had forgotten about it. Thanks for reminding me. Cheers, Gertie | |

If you could drive for 02 hrs and go to Pondicherry I wouldl suggest Le Dupleix (sarovar group of hotels)...I was there for a couple of nights with my partner and the Honeymoon Suite was extremely good..the fond memories still linger on Excellent food, nice staff, heritage hotel and very quiet
