Car rates

Today my sis is coming from singapore and im gng to chennai international airport to receive her, i was thinking of taking prepaid taxi for drop to home, but since it iwll be night after 10.30 or so, i decided to book in advance and searched searched searched on internet and got the best rates on this cite:

http://www.taxi-1chennai.com/aboutus.php

so to confirm and book called this taxi service , spoke in tamil explained that around 10.30 we need taxi @ airport, so he mentioned following charges

from airport to chrompet rp road

charges 200
parking charges (if u want) 25
night charges if whole time takes beyond 11 pm - 50 so total will be around 275 rs, i feel this will be reasonable, so today night after my experience will post the review of this taxi service ;-)

called the service at 9.30 to get drivers no,, again called back at 9.45 then
Got fooled by the taxi service at around 10.15 pm i recd call from taxi service that vehicle is punctured n it will take 1 hr extra, nw who gonna wait one hr extra, so obviously had to cancel the service n take prepaid taxi for 270 bucks , but if this wud hav happnd to some outsider he wud be in deep trouble, since he might not even know tamil, or the instructions, so as per my experience above source cant be trusted.

Hi RSK and others,

For the benefit of travellers flying in to Chennai, I suggest that either the black taxi operated by the Tamilnadu Govt ( Non AC) or the AC cabs operated by Aviation Express can be taken irrespective of the time of arrival.

If it is Aviation Express, they have very good cars like the Chevrolet or the Toyota Innova and service is definitely good. I use them always on my return trip.

There are lot of call taxis that wait outside and though it might appear cheaper to use them, not all of them are reliable and gullible passengers might be fleeced. Its not worth taking the risk.

For Econmical mode of transport, select local buses have started coming inside the airport to pick and drop passengers and the service commenced a few days ago.

Regards, Raghu

That will be excellent news to many!

Do you know where they are stopping? For instance, directions from International Arrivals door?

My word is never seek a "Call Taxi" for a drop back from the Aiport. You have to wait.Aviation Expres is good both for pick up and drop. For a pick up from my house to the airport for a a/c travera/qualis Aviation Express charged me less than the local tourist taxi man

Fasttrack was one of the first, defining call taxis in Chennai and has, until recently, remained at the top of the tree. A call to Fasttrack would ensure a car outside the house at least 15 minutes early.

However, they let us down badly on an airport trip, booked 24 hours in advance, telling us, atthe last minute, that they could not provide an Innova (we had a lot of luggage), but could provide two Indicas instead --- at double the price. Luckily (at 3.00am) we managed to get a car at immediate notice from a local company.

More recently, we called a car to go to an ENT doc appointment, as I did not consider it safe to drive deaf. We gave enough time for the journey, but the driver was late, and showed us that he had not received the instruction for our trip until too late anyway.

We hear that there is also quite a lot of discontent among drivers and car owners (investors) going on.

Sadly, Fasttrack is off my personal list now.

That's the company with a kiosk at the airport? Could you post the contact details?

Google call taxi chennai!

If you really want local ones, then look in the local paper that might be delivered to your block, or might be available to be picked up at a local supermarket. --- or look for a street full of parked, white, Indicas, and find the nearby Taxi/Travels sign board!

We have been using FastTrack, up to now, which has been the market leader in call taxis here. However, they have let us down a couple of times, and are not 100% reliable and timely like they used to be.

Hi,

Call up Just Dial.com 26444444 and ask for cab companies in and around Mylapore and they would send it to you in a jiffy. Publish the names of the cabs you got from them and we cna help you to narrow down the choices.

However, I can suggest you a reliable cab company. Its called Karthik Travels situated just opposite Billroth Hospital about 100 yards from the Cream Centre ( Restaurant). They are very reliable and prompt and I have used their services many a times.

If you want their number, u can also ask Just dial.com and they would forward you the same along with other cab companies contact details.

Raghu
