Only 1 day in Chennai: where to shop for travelling clothes?
We only have one day in Chennai. We would like to shop
for T-shirts, simple cotton clothing for men and women to wear on our 4 week trip in South India. What would be the best place to shop? We are not looking for "bottom prices". Thanks! |

Umm...you could go to the Spencers Mall and ask for the Tantra Shop which retails some of the nicest tees with an Indian twist. They're usually a great hit when presented to my pals in the Uk. You can also check out the Westside shop in the same mall for real classy golf tees and stuff. Or try any of the sport outlets like Nike, Rbk etc, but Tantra remains ur best bet for that local flavor.
Or if ur sumwhere in south chennai, head to elliots beach. It is chennai's own fashion street and u have loads of stores that pack tees, cargoes and stuff. Cheers. |

If you're looking for a traditional material like in khadhi there is khadhi craft run by the government in mount road as well.
Its cheap & you can be guaranteed on the price. They are very good material for the summer weather there and they come in t-shirt styles as well. |

Spencer Mall has many clothing shops, both budget and upscale. It's next-door to the Taj Connemara Hotel. I bought several items there a couple of years ago and am very satisfied with their quality.

Yes, specially if you are staying not far, Spencers is a good place.
Else any nearby big store along the lines of Lifestyle, Shoppers Stop (I have seen these in Chennai) or others would do. Be warned, though, that this seems to be sale season across some parts of India..in which case you may take longer than your available four weeks just to pay for your purchases. |
