Night-time transfer from airport to Mamallapuram or Kanchipuram

Night-time transfer from airport to Mamallapuram or Kanchipuram

I am traveling to Chennai next month, arriving at the domestic airport in the evening. Is it feasible and safe to try and transfer directly to Mamallapuram or Kanchipuram from the airport in the evening, skipping an evening stay in Chennai altogether?

I have limited trip time and I'm trying to minimize "wasted" travel time. I am more interested in the towns outside of Chennai, not Chennai itself.

You can take a taxi. Just go to the pre-paid booth inside the airport.

The highways are safer in daylight, but otherwise it is not a long journey, no problem at all.

(on second thoughts, you might prefer not to be able to see the other traffic !)

The East Coast Road (Chennai to Mahabalipuram) is one of the nicest in India. It's perfectly safe. It was upgraded with money from the World Bank.
