Personally I never have been to any such parlour but have heard many stories, many parlours will just cheat you, they will take money from you and then threaten you to get out from there. Sometimes they might even make you strip for massage and take your clothes and might make you run without your clothes. And for such things you cant even file a complaint because you yourself will be at fault for going there. So dont go to any unknown, unrecommended parlour.
I dont know you are indian or foreigner, so that will also matter. |

There is nothing sleazy about Thai Massage! Seems like a bit of confusion here on this thread.
![]() Thai Yoga Therapy or Thai Massage is an ancient healing system which has its roots in Yoga and Ayurveda. It combines massage, asanas and acupressure in order to increase energy, free blockages and connect the body/mind.

I think there are two places that you will be safe from such stuff, although it doesn't necessarily guarantee the quality of the massage: touristy places, such as expensive hotels, resorts; beauty parlours (for the ladies), and those places that are offering massage from a therapeutic standpoint such as aurveda.
That's three. OK... Among places will be safe are... ![]() As to the "massage parlours" that are (probably) merely fronts for brothels, one does not see them like one does in cities in like London. If they made themselves obvious like that, the police would be in the same day. Nor does one see the "full satisfaction guaranteed" personal services ads that make up a substantial section of London papers (or used to; not sure that they are even required to be that subtle, these days). Oh no. This is India; that sort of thing does not go on here. No, Oh no... Indeed, no... I think the chances of walking into such a place by accident are very slim. Judging by the story of the arrest of a certain woman in Adyar, it could be rather expensive (but maybe the business she ran was at the higher end of the market, I don't know) and, as rsk says, one might well not even get what one had paid for. |

In India you bribe the police and do anything, in India prostitution is illegal still there are so many famous areas known for prostitution in so many cities. Even the police, government knows this, but they dont take action, because they are paid their share.
So one warning or word of caution for whomsoever who wishes to go for massage. Better light scented candles at home and listen to rejunevating music. Here are some links which will be useful http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...53046AAB3RR U As far as traditional massage is concerned, I mean real ayurvedic massage, the best is the one in kerala. And its a shame for young and healthy people like you to go to massage parlours. In my family my grandparents were fit as fiddle in their 80s without any massage, the only ayurvedic kerala massage is very powerful, and my uncle received it in his childhood and the ayurvedic kerala massage was applied daily to my uncle, to cure him of polio and he was cured. So massage is only for ailments, and not to crack bones. But now it has all become a business, and with the tempting advertisements one tends to think that they are really rejunevating and relaxing. |

Massage is a small part of the entire practice of Aurvedic medicine, but it is available to those who want it, especially in tourist places.
I think coolblue probably never wanted the spotlight shone on the seedier sife of "massage"! Hey ho, it's all about the city! Thai massage... no idea... |

During a visit last year, I had a few full body massages at the Green Trendz in Velachery by a guy name "Kalai". He was awesome. He did not use any skilled techniques (like Thai) but had the right combination of force and strokes.
To be very clear....this is not the type of massage that comes with a happy ending ![]() |

Dear Chetan,
Do you know what you are talking ? Tell me one Star hotel that offers this service ( damn cheap ) You must be day dreaming ! Do you know how much the Taj Fish Cove and the Aura at the Park charge ? only a few thousands for a 45 minute therapy. If that sounds cheap you must be rolling in millions. Raghu

![]() Chennai's posh hotels may be relatively cheap compared to the equivalent Brit places (Brits pay through the nose for hotels) but I'm told that they are not at all cheap to travellers from Europe (I still do that, despite UK having joined up long since; I mean mainland Europe) or America. . |
