how many people will attend the function? We got married in New Woodlands hotel on R.K Salai, I really liked the place, it has character. And the food is great (but only veg). There is a smaller hall on North Boag Road, in T.Nagar next to the Kaaraikudi restaurant. Have never had a function there, only passed it. But it looks decent enough...

halls
There are a couple of wedding halls on Arya Gowda Road in west Mmabalam but I have not looked inside them.
Another option might be the Madras Race Club although this is a bit outside the area you wanted. They would have the space required and can provide food also. |

A vegetarian hotel would be ideal (#3). I used such. But, the numbers (300) may suggest a larger venue..

We had about 240 people for our marriage in New Woodlands, and that was enough space. They have different halls, I think even a bigger one too. Just speak with the manager and inquire. The food is yummie

Around two or three hundred for my wife's son's wedding at Sarveri, next door. too. I don't think that this would be considered a particularly large number for a wedding here.
Most of the big hotels will give a choice of diet, but Woodlands is a vegetarian place, and I doubt that they allow non-veg on the premises.

Woodlands doesn't allow non-veg. It's a typical Brahmin place (not exclusively, but a lot of Brahmin families have their weddings there), so they are very particular about non-veg. Which was excellent for us, both being vegetarians
