yikes- really??? Last year it drizzled one day only which was no big deal. I'd really feel hot wearing a kameez w/ long scarf and raincoat over it- umbrellas acceptable? Seriously. Thanks in advance for all opinions.

Guys... Chennai should be dry from mid-december on. Usually a bit earlier, even, but in 2005 I was really worried that our 14 Dec. wedding might be rained on --- it was one of the first dry days

PlaneMad... Do tell us where that photo was taken!

OK- umbrellas it is if necessary as I'll keep an eye on reports before leaving here.

Next question for those who live in Chennai:

Is there a place you'd recommend where I could reasonably buy acrylic paints and handmade paper? If so, I'd very much appreciate name of store(s) and location. I'm trying to locate areas of this nature in advance to make it easier when we arrive. Thank you.

There's a specialist paper shop in Royapettah, on the High Road, near the Lloyds Road junction. It's inside a rather run-down shopping centre called something like 'Officer's Complex'.

I'm not sure if it is the same shop, but I remember meeting a foreign tourist artist who had just been stocking up at that or a nearby shop and said it was an excellent artists shop.

Thank you much for the responses! At least now I have a starting point for the materials.

I realize Nehru shirts are rather Northern India in origin but I have a large male friend who wants me to find a shirt sewing pattern for him when I come to Chennai in Dec.

Apparently there are no Nehru sewing patterns for men to be found in USA and he was hoping I'd locate one there. Do you think such a thing might exist and if so where would I find it? He'd be like an X-Large in size.

If no actual patterns what would be the next logical step in attempting this? Should I take his measurements and try to see if anyone could make one up?

Thanks in advance for replies!

Actually he wants a Nehru styled shirt. Back in the 60s apparently they were common in the USA as a result of Beatles etc influence.

In this case less of a jacket and more of a shirt style. Thanks for asking for clarification.

Aren't you wonderful!!!! However I will only be in Chennai most likely so won't make it to New Delhi or Hyderbad. I will have to keep looking around in Chennai proper when I get there.

OK- imagine a Nehru jacket but not as long and in more of a light cotton shirt material.

The actual shirt pattern COULD very well be for a Nehru jacket if large enough and then he could have it made into whatever he needed out of whatever material he chooses. I just need the paper pattern for the Nehru styled shirt/jacket.

Do you know of any talented pattern makers? I could get the measurements no problem.
