hi everyone,
my first time to india & i can't wait!! we are arriving at chennai airport november 19th at 1:30 am and leave again the next day at 2:00 pm. so we just need a clean little double room near the airport to get some hours of sleep. don't has to be something special, it's ok if it's clean and has a bathroom. i did a bit of internet research but all i found were five star houses like le meridien, radisson etc. for around 200 usd/night. well this would bust our budget a little bit... we don't want to spend more than 50 usd.does anyone know a budget hotel near the airport, maybe a homepage and/or tel.no? thanks in advance for any suggestion! cheers from frankfurt surfinglaluna

at 1.30am you'll be in the centre of the town half and hour and Rs300 later: Chennai airport is not that far out.
I have a feeling there are rooms at the airport... This from AirIndia Site Quote:
If you want a couple of names of places in the Rs1,000-ish range, I'll suggest some. Mrs N says Mount Manor Hotel is there near the airport and cheap...

the airport retiring rooms are comfortable, attached bath, large room, towels, food available nearby..
and, they do reserve the right to have somebody share the room (and adjust the cost downwards) if the place gets full. didnt happen with me, though. |

If there's two of you to begin with, maybe they don't have that option!
Sounds just what you need ![]() |

thanks for the advice!
we decided against the retiring room & for a hotel in chennai... for the airport is not THAT far out as you say. we'd be grateful for some suggestions for around rs 1,000! do you think we should book in advance? |

These are the two I've got in my card book...
Hotel Karpagam 41 South Mada Street, Mylapore phone India: +91 Chennai 44 2495 9984 double AC 700 + tax Guruprakash Hotel 21-22 Sarojini St., T. Nagar phone: +91 44 2432 1212, 1414, 1515, 1616. Various rates AC: 950 to 1100 I have never stayed in either, but I know people who have. If I wanted to be somewhere nice to stroll in the couple of spare morning hours, I'd chose Mylapore. I would suggest that, if you don't book in advance, you at least phone to make sure they have 24-hr checkin! |

P.S: Do not use the online reservation system on the site. Call up the hotel and make the reservation directly.

Hotel New Woodlands
I stayed at the Hotel New Woodlands for four weeks and can thoroughly recommend it. Clean rooms, and the food is great (2 restaurants, though I think the dearer one, Vrindavan, only opens at night - could be wrong).
They will take a reservation by email, just make sure they reply to you (it took me 2 emails to get through). Cheers, Scott

Yep, a good choice... more upmarket than the two that I listed, though not hugely more expensive.
