For the best vegetarian chinese food in Chennai, try Flowerdrum. I am struggling to remember the exact location, but if anyone has any ideas, it's on the top floor of a slightly run-down shopping mall up near the Chennai Museum?? Their dim sum is awesome!

Prince Plaza - pantheon road- opposite the Museum.

I can highly recommend 'Something Fishy'. It is on the roof of the hotel 'Inn Chennai' on Mount Road (Close to Gemini flyover and next to the Mercedes Benz showroom).
The restaurant serves delicious fish (as the name suggests ), but for vegetarians there is also plenty of yummy stuff. The staff is really helpful and friendly and they will do anything to prepare the food according to your wishes. The owners are a couple: The woman was the first female chef for Taj and the man was the personal chef of a sheik of Dubai.

And best of all: they have chocolate mousse to die for as dessert

Only open for dinner unfortunately...

Mods if such a thread has been done before, my apologies in advance.

I'll start off with mine:

1. Eden The link has a mention of Eden among others
Good veg food. No meat. Home cooked feel. On top of Maharaja store in Besant Nagar (I think its Maharaja. If it's not Maharaja its the one a few metres from Maharaja). Sorry, thats the best for location. You could always google the address if you plan on visiting. I'd guess Rs 200 pp

2. Fruit Shop on Greames Road
Diagonally opposite the big temple in Besant Nagar. Yummy ice fresh fruit juices. No added sugar option. Rs 25~100 (or more). Has branches

3. Annalakshmi
On Mount Road, veg fine dining. Run by volunteers like doctors and lawyers who cook as well as serve (don't know about cleaning). Highly recommended. Pay as you like.

Disclaimer: I've not visited Chennai in a while so some if not all may have closed..

just returned from dinner (& under the table beer) at Kebab court on ECR (opposite Prarthana Drive-in)
Fairly decent Avadhi cuisine (think kakori/shami kebabs and Mutton Rogan Josh)

Coming to think of it, Chennai seriously lacks Avadhi cuisine joints
I have feasted on better Avadhi (Lucknow) food in New Jersey than in Chennai

Do they still serve beer under the table on ECR? I thought they long discontinued that tradition...

Not sure if someone has mentioned this before in this thread - The New Yorkers, in Gemini Circle, is a good, less expensive & small place for pure Veggie + mexican food. It may not be authentic mexican but good enough for a try!

The Cholayil Sanjeevanam in Chennai is a unique experience.A must try atleast once for everyone. Mind you, it is a health conscious restaurant dont expect a treat for your tongue here. and all you dieters NO NO this is not a reduce-belly-fat-in-10-days way of eating, its just a balanced diet.
