Maxx, please don't post in sms/chat lingo!

There used to be a Lebanese restaurant in Kottapuram. I think it moved to Nungambakkam. It might have been called Cedars, I'm guessing, but will see what google says.

edit: here but google, as you will get the google maps location and quite a few other matches.

Though Cedars has been famous since ages, i couldn't go there. And yes nick is right, it has shifted from kotturpuram to nungamabakkam.

Azulia in GRT grand (though costly) i feel is really good when it comes to lebanese and mediterranean food.

Zaitoon/Cedars

At corner of MGR road and Lattice Road (Adyar), is a so-called Mid-Eastern resto. I thought the pita was horrible (white and fluffy), the olive salad was drowned in mayonnaise, and the humus was tasteless.

However, the meat might be better.

Cedars is the resto in Nungambakam. Haven't been, but they have a lunch buffet on weekends, I believe.

I think you are referring to Zaitoon. The things i love from there
1) laham tikka (mutton tikka)
2) Grilled chicken
3) Kozhi rice (mediterranena style biryani)

otherwise pretty much ordinary. Shwarmas are o.k. Hummus and pita (or kubus as it is called there) are waste of money

Rightly said we dont have many original Dindigul briyanis in Chennai...Off late i visited this new Restaurant called Dindigul Velu Briyani Kadai opposite to Ispahani centre on the Nungambakam High road. Its located at the back of the petrol bunk and next to Barista....

They served awasome mutton briyani, their mutton was so soft and tender I have not had something of that sort even in Thalapakatti (its Thalapakatti and not Thalapakattu as you mentioned in ur blog ). They have matched the taste of Venu in Dindigul.

You should try their,

Mutton Briyani
Mutton Set Parotta
Mutton Chukka
Kola Uranda
Dindigul style Checked lollipop

I searched everywhere for someone to vote for 'Saravana Bhavan'. All I can say is, it is crap (can I say that here). I had the misfortune to eat at two 'Saravana Bhavan's as my wife had heard of its undeserved (good) reputation.

For example the nan they served is not really a nan it is a tawa nan. Food tastes horrible compared to similar places in Kerala.

Comparing like for like in Kerala it is also overpriced.

Try the food court in Express Mall, slightly more expensive but far tastier.

You certainly can!

Absolutely... vastly over-rated. It got into the guidebooks and thus became internationally famous. Whilst the small portions do not bother me, they are certainly not sufficient for the average S. Indian appetite. Only their fresh-fruit ice-cream makes them worth a visit.

Remember that the food they are serving (at least in their downstairs section) is standard S. Indian veggie fare. You can get better and pay less at almost any veggie restaurant here.

Saravana Bhavan is certainly the most expensive brand. Food is of good quality generally but the quantity served is less compared to other hotels and at a higher price. So in that sense, I agree. It's way over-rated.

To be honest, you shouldn't expect authentic North Indian fare in Saravana Bhavan or the like.

Bit offtopic, but Sarvana Bhavan is very highly rated in Delhi. During lunch time there is always at least 30 minutes waiting at their Janpath branch. But expensive it is !

It is highly rated by many people, like Microsoft Windows, or possibly even more like Apple. They have convinced their market of their worth, and their market is loyal to them. I know someone who won't go anywhere else, because she believes it is hygienic. Not that it isn't, of course, that is one of their selling points.

Their nans are terrible, if you served that here you would get a smack in the mouth.
