If it is not-that-old, not-that-cheap and carrying data you really need, it might be worth looking at their site to see if its manufacturer has a service place here. I believe Compaq/HP does, for instance.

I had seen this big hoarding on Pantheon Road advertising a lap top repair service...they say "Any laptop"! I think I saw them mention "within 15 minutes"...or sure. Nor do i remember the name. Wait for a day...will try to get you a lead.

british raj, there was subtle clue in the location. i think elvis isn't the onle one who has left the building.
everyone else, cheers, and answers:
make: high quality Dell
location: south ECR, but anywhere will do at this stage.
problem: so many. the biggest: where the cable connects at the back of the laptop is banjaxed, so not powering up anymore.

Just took a look at www.dell.co.in.

Sufficiently useless to quickly convince me that I'll never buy one. Why? Because if its out of warranty, they don't seem to give any information on service at all .

You can call the dell India, they will send their service engineer to your place very next day and repair it in your place. (But charges are more, to Indian conditions. You may find it ok)
Call1800- 425- 4026 Toll Free or Call 080-2506-8026

If you want it to be repaired for a cheaper price, head to Ritchie street. You can find many laptop repair shops.

First option is trouble free

There is a place called ABM infotech - thats what rangss is referring to (i think)
Ideally - get Dell to fix it. Simply because their work is accountable. It might be a tad expensive- and more importantly they come to your place and get it done.

thanks guys.
wandered up & down ritchie st last friday. told that 'its not a problem with the power cord.' ahmm, thanks, but i told you that the moment i walked in. yet you insisted in having me sit here for 20 mins while you test the power cord. thank you.
tried a bunch of places & no help. it's a problem with the motherboard & everywhere told me it can't be fixed.
which i don't believe. DELL said bring it back to the states but that's not an option. said there's nothing else thay can do.
i'll google ABM infotech & let y'all know how it develops.
cheers again to all...

Dell has a worldwide support policy - or international warranty as they call it (dell ex-emp speaking) so if you are still under warranty - get them. Else, pick up a warranty and get it fixed by them. if the power is not coming on - then check with a multimeter if there is a voltage coming out of the adapter. and then you can eliminate.
