Hi Velu, i am planning to visit wayand on 3rd october and stay there till 5th october. its me and my spouse.

i am reaching calicut on 3rd morning at 5 am via rail.
my return train is on 5th evening 5 pm,,

i have booked a resort near meppedi, rippon. valley view apartments.

what is ur suggestion to make this trip effective, in terms for travel from calicut to kalpetta, site seeing planning...

i dont want trekking.. i wanted to see good places like pookod lake, lakidi valley, soojipara falls, banasura dam, tholpetty, thirunelli and kuruva dweep..

what is the order in which i can go to these places and what mode of transport is better?

Get a Bus from Calicut[It is Frequent and nothing much to see on the way ] Or Cab to Kalpetta [ 3 Hours Journey]

Approximately on Oct 3rd , you will be in Meppadi by around 10 am !

For that Day you could explore Chembara peak [No Trek and it's an interesting Experience with Excellent Scenery . Search using My id in this site and you will see the write-up on this place] & Soochipara Falls [ This involves mild walk of around 2 kms To & Fro] but Fantastic location]

Cab Or Jeep is Best option !

Retire for the Day

Oct 4th:-

For this Day hire a Jeep , as tholpetty WLS do not have forest dept vehicle for Safari and Jeep Or 4 WD is allowed inside with a forest dept guide in your vehicle. If at all you hire some other car , Again you have to Bargain and get a Jeep in front of Tholpetty WLS !

Start early around 5 am and drive to Tholpetty WLS [ Safari timings 6 - 9 am ]

Visit Thirunelly temple

Have Lunch

Visit KuruwaDweep Island

Visit Banasura Dam

Reach your resort and Retire for the Day

Oct 5th:-

No Need to Hire Car / Jeep !

Get an Auto Or Shared Jeep to Pookoot Lake . From Meppadi hardly 45 minutes drive ! Try to be in Pookoot Lake around 10 am !

Try out Boating , Horse Cart ride around the Lake

Overall you can spend around 2 hours in Pookoot Lake !

From there, get Auto Or Bus to Kalpetta bus stand [ Hardly 20 minutes]. Have Lunch !

Select bus / Seat [ Select Right Hand Side Seats for better Views] and proceed towards Calicut ! [ You will cross Pookoot Lake] and in another 8 to 9 kms, "Thamaraserry Ghat Road Starts" . Wonderful Views and Scenic . In Another 5 to 6 kms you will see Quite a lot of Vehicles parked in the sides and that's "View Point". There is no Real need to Get down and you can enjoy the whole drive from the bus itself and you will be in Calicut in 3 to 3 1/2 hours !


Please be aware, there are intermittent rains in wayanad now . Eventhough it may not be a show-stopper, Chembara peak Road will be a problem and Kuruwadweep island Visit might get Cancelled .[ Basically you need to board a boat to reach the island which is the actual attraction. During heavy rains, that boat service will be stopped due to Floods in that River] . My Suggestion is, Just dial your resort and ask Whether "Kuruwadweep island" Visit is possible but otherwise all other places what I specified can be visited with ease !!

And in lieu of chembara peak, You may add Iruppu Falls when you visit Tholpetty WLS . Iruppu Falls is in Coorg District, KArnataka but hardly it's 15 kms from Tholpetty WLS[Wayanad District, Kerala] !
