inexpensive hotel Adyar, Indira nagar maybe Mylapore.

I'm looking for an inexpensive hotel in south Chennai, Indira Nagar, Besant Nagar, Adyar, maybe as far north as Mylapore,for a week or ten days. Suggestions? I've looked inthe hotel listings. Does any one have a phone no. for Apu Guesthouse?

You mention cheap hotel in Adyar, and the first thing that comes to mind is the brilliantly named Hotel Runs!!

Well, funnily enough....

I don't have Apu Guesthouse in Mylapore, but it is owned by the same people as Ram Guesthouse in Royapettah, where I used to stay, so give them a call on +91 44 2813 0491.

It's not that cheap! I think I used to pay about 750 for an AC room back in 2004.

There's Hotel Karpagam, right next to Mylapore Temple tank. AC is 700 plus tax, probably about the same as Ram: non-AC is as little as 280! They are on 2495 9984.

I don't know if Hotel Runs has rooms ---'hotel' here, confusingly, means restaurant as well as place to stay--- but it is a moderately good non-veg place to eat. Better, in the same area, is the almost-as-well-named Hotel Trafic Jam
