Mod Note

Hi Jeevan. Given that its an international audience that uses IndiaMike - and english may not always be the first language - it would be appreciated if you could use full words instead of text language in your posts (its hard enough sometimes without the text, let alone with it). thanks.

Take a cab from the prepaid booth at Central Station. An auto will get you to T Nagar easily too, but the station crowd auto drivers will charge you as much, or more than, a car anyway.

Go to the Prepaid Booth and ignore any approaches form touts who will overcharge you by a fantastic amount

Define "Easy" please. It must be one and half hours drive, I guess. Or much more in heavy traffic times.

I have never arrived at Egmore Station, so I do not know its ins, or its outs --- but much the same is going to apply.

Jeevan,

You will get a better response if you write in correct English. Your posts are very hard to understand.

Although what I really meant to say was that I, as a grumpy old fart, do not reply to posts written in text-speak as a matter of principle. Abbreviations may save you a few keystrokes but they take a significantly longer time, and greater effort, to read. If you (i.e. one) can't be bothered to ask the question properly, don't expect an answer. ( )

Probably yes. Auto should be cheaper, but it won't be.

With the cabs, you are on the meter. It isn't actually "pre-paid", but it is controlled. You pay what it says on the meter, nothing more, and for such a short trip, no tips even.

Please note that if you go with one of the "helpful" touts who may try and pick you up on the station, the fare will be as much as four times overcharge. I made a thread about this.

Later...

That thread is -->here

id suggest public transit if your destination is in pondy bazaar or near the tnagar bus station.
Either tke the 10/11 series bus from across the road (government hospital bus stop) or take a local train from park station to mambalam. shouldnt cost more than 5 bucks for either one.

Otherwise an auto from the station could cost you to 100+. or if you take a moving one from across the road near the hospital, you could pay something like 80.

I've been to Geetanjali, but I don't remember which street it is in.

It depends what time of what day you are arriving, but T. Nagar is one of the busiest, most congested areas of Chennai. It is hard work just doing a shopping trip even for fun!

Mambalam Station is at the end of the very busiest, most crowded street in the area. It is very tough to negotiate that street even without luggage.

A taxi will take you to the door of the hotel, without any difficulty on your part. Unless saving the money is very important to you, it is the simplest and easiest way.

An auto should do too, but recent attempts to solve T Nagar's traffic problem by building a flyover have, it seems, somehow made it worse, and I understand that autos are restricted form certain streets there. I don't have the details.

I remember some parts of T nagar (like in front of Nalli's and Pothys) closed off to traffic with detours and rerouting, at least when I was there in December. Worth avoiding if at all possible. Even without the construction this area is, as Nick says, total chaos at all hours. I would opt for a car or a taxi to take you to the doorstep of your hotel.

That would have been the re-routing that was in place during the construction of the Usman Road flyover, which is now complete and open. Everything's changed!

It's not a whole bunch of fun driving there, as you can imagine. I try to avoid it.

Hotel Geentanjali:
it is on the busy South Usman road and next to the TNagar bus terminus junction.
When you take a train,u can get down at tnagar, then move out of the station into Ranganathan street(where u will find most of the crowd moving).
Come out of the ranganathan street(and you will like this),take a right into South Usman road, walk some 50-75 meters, you will find the hotel on the other side of the road.

And Panayur,i think you mean the place beyond Injambakkam.
Get to Tirunmiyur to the East coast road, then take a shared rock or a bus to panayur
