In December I stayed at the Hotel Cristal, 34 CNK Rd, Triplicane.
044 2858 5605. It was fairly clean, double bed, attached bath, ceiling fan and cable TV. 200/- per night. Also all the things I needed for the two days was on the doorstep. Internet shops, phones, breakfast restaurants etc. The beach was about a twenty minute walk away. A bit further was a bus terminus where you can get a bus to the big bus station, can't remember the name four letters I think. From there I went south as far as you can then north up the west coast. If you want any help with hotels etc if you're going that way - let me know. |

No GTT, I am not Synonymous with Chennai. I am merely offering my input based on my recent visit to Chennai which included scouting for hotels. The prices of these hotels start from around INR1400 onward. In any event, Im not imposing my choice on anybody else.

It would have fermented by the time it got back here --- although for those of you wanting an alcoholic drink, I suppose that's the whole idea!!!
When we get our place in Kerala, give a couple of days notice and I'll get you some ![]()

Sorry to break the party here; Nick as you might have noticed the toddy if given to you in a bottle would have been without a cap! This is because gas develops along with fermentation so the period of travel from Kerala to Chennai the bottle would have a lot of gas pressure and as I experienced in my case once you open the cap most of the gas will come out taking the liquid with it.
The closest point to Chennai as I mentioned earlier is Pondicherry state (for Toddy procurement). Like I mentioned earlier when in Chennai and wanting a drink ,think down to Chennai earth(meaning availability) and drink with your own sensibility. |

Indeed: my friends did not even screw up the bottle caps between getting the toddy and drinking it.

Oh no, not Pondicherry, its good for beer and hard liquor but not toddy, my friends said its very bad there. My toddy habit kick starts only when I land in Kerala.

You can also get toddy in A.P. About an hour's drive north from Chennai, or you can take the commuter train a couple of stops beyond Gummidipundi.
