I suspect that there are dozens or hundreds of such places....
You mention "church" --- is it a Christian place you are looking for? If so I'll ask Mrs Nick-H this evening for you. Can you narrow it downfor us please? Christian, Hindu, Muslim? What kind of wish? Different temples get reputations for different wishes eg for husbands, wives, babies, health etc etc etc. There is a Hanuman temple in Alwarpet (Luz Church Rd) that I remember Mrs N-H telling me about when I first met her, but I can't remember what kind of wish it specialises in, maybe it is general.

Maybe, Priya, who knows?
![]() Anyway, I will ask Mrs N, but this sort of thing sounds much more likely to be Hindu. In fact it is a regular part of Hindu life. |

Mrs N reckons it might be 1. Hanuman Shrine, Alwarpet (Hindu) 2. St Anthony Church, Armenian St., Pary's (Christian) 3. Besant Nagar ---at the South end of the beach there is a Catholic Church and a Hindu temple. But this is very typical Hindu stuff. I went to a tiny temple in a village last year where there are whole storerooms full of the babies that have been born after the childless parents worshipped there. Woops! I mean photographs of he babies ![]() |

Chennai? Could be Thomas Mount where Doubting Thomas was run through with a lance and bled onto a stone, which still drips blood occasionally. There is also Little Mount, in Mylapore (section of Chennai), where there is a grotto where he once hid. There's a nice church on top. You can climb down into the grotto.

Hi
Little Mount is in Saidapet and I think it might be the one he is looking (not sure however). The one in Mylapore is the Santhome Church. HTH Slakhs |

There's a this 'famous' Vinayak temple at Besanth Nagar at Chennai. The God there is a specialist in marriage matters
. You go to that temple and make a wish about your marriage. Sooner than later you would get married!!How do i know??? well... i've made that mistake ![]() |

If it's a christian place, then it must be the St.Thomas Mount. A small church at the top of a small mount (some what opposite to the airport). You can reach there by the local bus (and to some extend by train too). Vey well wthin the city limits. A flight of steps (and a small road too) leads to the top.
St.Thomas (one of the 13 Disciples of Christ) died here. That's the importance of this place. There is'a small bone of St.Thomas kept at this chapel. |

Apparently for Christians its Besant Nagar on Saturdays and St Anthony's on Tuesdays (Mrs N says there will be a long queue).
So you can combine with a Saturday afternoon on the beach, or a weekday visit to Chennai's fascinating get-everything-wholesale-price maze of market streets (I'm off there this afternoon, but I don't think we're wishing for anything except maybe a rice cooker )I'm not a church goer (Mrs N and I part company on Sundays) but there is an (Armenian?) Orthodox church in Armenian St which I wouldn't mind taking a look at one day. There's a good place to eat just opposite, as well. |

You can get some details of St Thomas Mount from this blog. And some pics too.
