It depends. If you are just stopping off, then staying closer to the airport is fine. If you want to see any of the city, then don't even consider Tambaram, as it is further away.

It is easy to reach Chennai from the airport. If you want to do it low-budget, you can take a train. If you can spend a few hundred Rs, take a pre-paid taxi from the airport. Arriving at 10.00am, by the time you leave the airport, the morning office rush will have subsided, and you can enjoy seeing the Chennai streets.

For budget accommodation, Broad Lands in Triplicane comes recommended by quite a few members. They have rooms as cheap as Rs.200, and an interesting ambience in an old building. You will be central for seeing any Chennai sites.

Hi Nitya,

Mylapore is also simiar to Triplicane in terms of locality but a better place to stay. There is the Picnic Plaza hotel near Luz, then the Karpagam Hote on south mada street opposite the Kapaleswarar temple, where one of our members are currenty staying. there is a IM meet up also scheduled today.

The rates for singe non ac room is around 500 INR.

Take the pre paid taxi from the airport and reach your destination as it is the best way when you are not familiar with the town.

I'd prefer Mylapore too; it depends on the budget.

If the budget has to be severely restricted, Broad Lands in Triplicane is unbeatable. If not, then Mylapore is nicer.

There is no direct train from the International airport to Mylapore.

Yes, Railway Station (Tirusulam) is right opposite and walkable from International Airport.

You may have to get down at Kodambakkam and take a auto to Mylapore.

There is one more option also. You can Take a train from tirusulam towards Chennai Beach and get down at Fort Station. Change platforms and take a train to mylapore. That way you can also see the MRTS route which takes you on the coastal line of Chennai.

I have paid 300 for the prepaid taxi from the airport...I think that's an ok price and it safes time and hustle.

Hotel Karpagam in Mylapore is ok, not the cheapest but good location.
I think chosing a location depends on the budget and the purpose and length of stay in Chennai.

my suggestion again would be to take the tamilnadu goverments black taxi and head to the hotel instead of walking up and down and changing trains with your baggage. it is not worth it.

the travel desk at the hotel would help you plan your travel. otherwise post your query here, member would help.
