Digital Cameras?

What's the best place to buy a digital camera in this city? I went to Camera City, but thought their selection left a bit to be desired.
Thanks for any info or advice!

Hi Macdo,

Which part of Chennai do you reside ? If you are in the North of Chennai ( kilpauk, Anna Nagar etc ) you can go to Croma, owned by the TATAS, if you are in the South go to Ezone at Alwarpet opposite Lifestyle.

Good Value for money and genuine prices with Warranty.

Vivek's Electronics on Royapettah High Road has great electronics (several floors worth) and they are usually well-priced, slightly cheaper than Ezone, I think. Also, at Vivek's you can always keep asking them to lower the price. I've been quoted Rs. 8500 for a LG TV that I ended up buying for Rs. 7000 (along with other items). Just keep asking them (you'll know you're doing fine if they keep pulling out that big black binder...you'll get a lower price.)

Good luck!

In my opinion it is not advisable to buy electronic stuff and gadgets from Burma Bazaar unless you personally know someone. Most of the time the products are fake.

Nowadays we get genuine stuff from reputed stores like the tatas, Reliance, Vivek and other stores, and that too at competitive price, why settle in for substandard quality fo rwhich there is no guarantee.

Being a chennaite all along, I myself wont go and buy stuff at Burma Bazar.

My story was seeing the radio with the "Sony" label --- attached with sticky tape!

I meant *camera* I don't care to look *closely* to something what looks just like *junk* even from *far*, far away

BTW, I believe that *fake* means something closely mimic in appearance, what targeted to be sold by *brand* price. Finaly - to cheat you.

Any trash-priced junk is not *fake* by any way. In fact, this is fair deal, because you are not getting cheated.

Back to digital cameras, so far there are no junk-priced technologies to mimic even basic appearance (unlike stereos, MP3 or DVD). For next 2-3 years even cheap digital compacts are "fake"-safe.

Previous experience shows, that there are quite a lot *junk* compact film cameras came at time, but no one tried to mimic even cheapest entry-level film SLR like Pentax K1000. So, digital SLR market will be free from fake ones too.

You can find a few small camera shops in Spencer Plaza. Some stock would be grey, but you might find a bargain that way.
