Question Dasara in Chennai/Madurai??

Hello, I'm planning to get to Chennai at the end of october. Does anyone know how Dasara / Dusserha is celebrated there, and the dates for celebrations? The same question would apply for Madurai...
Thanks!

It will be celebrated pretty much everywhere. The Mysore celebrations are perhaps the most famous in the South, though I am not too knowledgable here.

Dates seem to be from 12h to 21st October this year. Dasara/Dussehra is on the 21st.

I've heard Dasara is much more celebrated in the middle and northern states... Besides, I would like to visit Madurai during any of their monthly festivals in the temple, but's there's no way to know the dates. Can anyone help me?

Question Madurai Temple Festivals

Does anyone know the exact dates for the temple festivals in Madurai? When and how is Dasara celebrated this year? Is it a day or night celebration in Madurai?
And finally one more question...
Any day-trip worth doing from Madurai?

Thanks..

dasara is not exactly celebrated in tamil nadu ... there is no concept .. u have instead something called as navaratri ... in which the goddess is worshipped in many temples..incl madurai meenakshi temple .. you have festivities. mysore is famous for it too. but in north dasara stands for ram's defeat over ravan and ramlila happens.

in chennai , u can also try bangla badi or other north indian /wetsern assocs for festivities incl. garbha and things like that.

Thanks, that agrees with what I've heard and read. I've been to Mysore already, so I'm trying to choose a place in Tamil Nadu (Chennai or Madurai) where to spend a few days in late october.
The thing is that I can't find the exact dates for the festivals in Madurai. Need some help to decide the route, as you see...
Thanks IMikers!
