Computer Dealers in Chennai.

Hi,

I'm new to chennai. And i would like to buy a new compputer for me at chennai. my friends suggested me to go the ritchie street to get cheapest computer parts.

There are lots of shops. Is there any specific shops where i can get good and cheap goods.

thanks in advance.

I think you'd be better off on a technical forum, but...

First you must decide: Do you really, really want to build your own computer?

If you do, and you are happy to take the responsibility of deciding the exact specification, making sure that everything is compatible, and the total absence of manufacturer's warranty or support, along with the responsibility for anything you break (bent pin on the processor? Woops! Expensive!) then you should have an interesting task ahead, and the satisfaction of getting just what you want.

I don;t really know how the cost would compare; I suspect the margin is probably not that great. Buying individual parts is also going to increase the pressure to spend more on some of them for higher performance.

Good and cheap goods? You haven't heard the old saying! Basically, as a stranger to town who is not buying in quantity, you are going to pay list price, more or less. Cheap probably means counterfeit; and there's a lot of that about!

They have branches in different areas too. You may be able to buy near your house, or, at least, to buy somewhere you can park outside. Traffic in Ritchie Street is a big problem.

no harm in assembling and saving money.all oem parts have 3 year replacement warranty.only problem is how to remove and where to go with defective parts.but a computer technician who will assemble will come handy here.as most of parts are static little chance being worn out and going bad.problems are mostly in software curruprtion or conflicts.here also big brands will say they are responsible for hardware only and software is not there cup of tea.so assembling can save lot of hassels and money too.

Almost all those parts are easily damaged by physical or electric shock. Of course there is no harm in building a computer. Did anything I said suggest that there is? There is both interest and satisfaction in the job --- if that is what one wants to do.

I drew attention to some of the disadvantages.

shock and electrical damage is common for all electronic gadgets
run from mains.though i my self always use branded computer for my office and home inspite of being a O.E.M assembler myself.

advantage with big brands is that they have very good mechnical
parts like cabinet, switches and power supply ratings are genuine.but all this comes for a good price.few years back saving was more than 50 percent.thing to be very carefull while assembly is not to go for very cheap chinese parts always insist on O.E.M parts made by reputed brands then there is no trouble.

That makes sense, yes... I'm surprised you can save that much --- I'll remember next time I need a new machine!

Although my PC is a Compaq on the outside, it is not on the inside: when the original MB failed, it would have been so expensive to repair/replace that the repair guy changed the motherboard to Gigabyte, with new processor and memory, of course. Thus I do have a hand-built machine, just I did not do the work myself. Next time, I will.

outside is very important i mean cabinet because powersupply is part of cabinet so heart of your computer is in best condition.
brain, microprocessors are built by INTEL so either in assembled or in branded it is same for all.now gigabyte is RAM.THIS IS TRICKY PART.as all rams run on different frequencies and need to be configured on mother board.some time while upgrading ram if there is problem in running applications ,technicians instead of re configuring mother board according to new ram go for full replacement of mother board and compatible ram.i think this happened with your pc.if mother board is by compaq then need not worry you have only upgraded ram in GBs.
Also INTEL makes original mother board. though bit costly but have good features than all all mother boards and life time warranty(5 years.)

last thing Hard Disk are made by only two three companies assemblers or brands buy from these.china makes to be avoided.

difference between prices is nor 50 percent now but still you save a lot.if original intel board is used difference is not much.

Oh, yes... but it included much faster CPU

My mother-board was certainly dead; I had verified symptoms with Compaq's support pages, and I don't doubt the technician's verdict. The only doubt would be if component-level repair might have been possible, and technicians preferred to change whole board. We went to Compaq "itself" --- but that is now outsourced. Previously, I doubt they would have put other manufacturer's parts in their own case.

Looking back, I would have done the job myself --- it was just so easy to say 'go ahead' and leave it to someone else.

If I had done, I would have thought more about each component, and, no doubt at all, ended up with a higher-spec, much more expensive machine.

I'm happy inside a PC case (as long as the air holes are big enough!), I've messed around with most components, just never done a build-from-scratch myself. Next time I will.

You can try Oasis which is on the main road itself...

But i'd recommend you to get all the pamphlets and do your own research before buying.... there's a slight price difference in each and every shops...

yes may be.but most of the time computer mother board is dead
problem is with cmos battery, costing 40.00 rupees, size of button.its life is 3 to 4 years.when proper 3 volt is not coming
mother board clock stops and hence mother boar appears dead.

otherwise it is very very rare for mother board even chinese one what to say about compaq going dead.

any how your computer functioning faster now.

P.S. compaq is nothing but HP from last 8 years.and HP outsources every thing from manufacturing to services.

Tried the cmos battery! As I say, I went through support web-page diagnostics. The engineer said, "You've done it all! I'll take a look, anyway..."

HP, Compaq... yes.
