Pity you are missing out Chennai, which would be your best bet for Southern-Indian classical music and Bharatnatyam.
Unfortunately, apart from major festivals, these things are subject to local announcements only --- it is a case of asking, and of seeing the local paper. |

Well There are a programs on Classical dance in India Habitat Center Delhi on 4th , 5th and 9 August. Dances will be Odissi, Natabari, Manipuri and contemporary styles.
Odissi is a very beautiful dance. No information about any Bharatnatyam event yet, but I am sure you will find some local events in South India. |

Hi Yummi,
WElcome to Indiamike.. When you talk of Classical Dance and that too in Chennai, the only thing that comes to my mind is Kalakshetra which is in Besant Nagar. You can google and get all the contact details. |

That sounds good! Manipuri is very interesting to see too. Natabari is a new one to me.
In Chennai, the thing to do is to see The Hindu newspaper every day. I'm a music, rather than dance, person, so there may be sources I don't know. ps... can you plan another trip for December/January? Chennai "music season" is huge. Mamalapuram also holds a dance festival. |

Oh! So much more than Kalakshetra comes to mind!
Chennai is the hear of Carnatic music and bharatnatyam. I suspect that the moderators might merge your threads, yummi. There are many, many independent organisations in Chennai, without any particular central organisation, even in "the season" when there might be dozens of concerts on one day. Mostly they advertise in The Hindu newspaper, in the listings on page 4. There is more music than dance, but you might be lucky. Some listings can be found in the blog of a friend of mine -->here. He does excellent work keeping this going, but got married very recently, so has been rather busy elsewhere. |

yummi, in case you aren't lucky with catching a performance, you still can go to the Kalakshetra Foundation and watch the students there having their dance lessons.
here is information for visitors: http://www.kalakshetra.in/general_info.html |

Bharatnatyam performances tonight at 5.45pm and 7.30pm at Narada Gana Sabha, TTL Road, Alwarpet.
It is in the mini hall; facing the building, go to the left side and up some stairs. Slightly more details in The Hindu. ... In case anybody is interested ![]() |
