Chennai to Pondicherry Bus Service

I am reaching Chennai Central railway station and wish to take a bus to Pondicherry. How far is the out-station bus stand from Chennai Central railway station?

Also, is there a share a taxi service between Chennai and Pondicherry?

Buses start from Central station going to CMBT Chennai Muffosil Bus Terminus also called Koyambedu from where you can catch maybe ac buses heading to Pondicherry from parking bay number 3. One can get ac buses or point to point SETC buses from there.

Thanks Gametotravel. How far is Koyambedu from Chennai Central Railway station? How much would an auto cost from station to Koyambedu and how long would it take? Is there a pre-paid auto service at Chennai Railway statiion?

Also, is there any sharing taxi service from Chennai to Pondicherry? (I am actually going to Auroville).

In fact, the buses to Pondy are coming by every 10 min,
1. YOU NEED 55Rs bus, NOT 45Rs!!!
2. Make sure bus driver/conductor to drop you at the Auroville turn (near bakery, ~ 5 km BEFORE Pondy) - they WILL NOT STOP without request.

Take the "ECR" bus to Puducherry. There is also a "by pass" route via NH45. ECR one is scenic and shorter.
