Chennai to Mamallipuram
Chennai to Mamallipuram
Am staying in Paradise Guest House in Triplicane, and wonder if there's an alternative to heading to the new bus station 7km west and then taking a bus from there.
Anyone have the link to the Chennai bus system (doesn't seem to come up on Google).
Also, does the state tourist authority run tours to Guindy National Park, or is it a case of DIY?
Thanks in advance for any responses.

Hi Amtrakker,
You can take the hop on hop off tourist bus to Mamallapuram. I think this starts outside the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development offices on Walaja Road, which is just under a km away from where you are. Check with your guesthouse to be sure - they will probably know.
You can find bus numbers and routes for Chennai here:
http://rab.in/bus/chennai/
but I don't think it covers buses to Mamallapuram - only those going around inside the city limits.

The official site for chennai city buses is www.mtcbus.org . Also, conducted tours are avialable at www.ttdconline.com. You can take teh Hop on Hop Off bus which will take you to most places around ECR inculuding mallamapuram.
ttdc buses start near triplicane itself you can walk down to their office at No.2,Wallajah Road (near Kalaivanar Arangam), Chennai-600 002.

Hop on Hop off tour
Thanks both for the links and helpful replies. How does the Hop on, Hop off tour work? THere only seem to be 4 buses heading south in the mornings, so doesn't appear to give much time to stop at the folk museum, Croc bank, temples etc. ANyone used this service who could comment.
Thanks again
