Sorry for posting a completely irrelevant post in reply to the question...

Rains are not as bad as you think...Just wait until you get wet completely, and then you know whats a monsoon rain is...
Brings out the child in you!!!!

So is it still a water shortage in chennai, that the water's delivered to the house?

Believe it or not, in some parts of the city there is!

My wife used to live in St Thomas Mount, and her daughter still keeps the place on --- they have been without mains water for the past two weeks.

...except when it isn't

When they deliver it in tankers and people have to queue up with their containers. The number of deaths on the road increase, too, as tanker drivers tend not to stop for little things that the bike in front of them that has stopped for a red signal.

We haven't had a really dry year for a while, and not while I've been living here. I'd be surprised if Jag hasn't experienced some, with a lifetime of Chennai --- but the more central, the less likely the supply is to dry up.

2003-2004, delivered to the house in tankers. Adyar, but I think it was quite general. I don't know how central Adyar is, it seemed quite central.

oh we've had dry years... the dry years dont affect me much... not as much as the dry days anyhow...

a friend of the family had his own water tanker plying the roads. we got our tanker full whenever we wanted one. didnt have to rely on the metro water trucks.

we should have another 100 ml/d on tap when the desalination plant goes on steam, hopefully by the end of the year.

Edit: not just my home all of chennai. read it after i posted and saw what it implied

chennai is absolutely beautiful these days. there was some rain last night and the odd shower is bound to occur (and be greeted with open arms and dancing legs) later this month, but it'll dry up considerably for the two-month-or-so lull prior to the nov-dec downpour. and there was the cyclone last year, though more to the east.

as for wouter, sure it'll rain a fair bit in kerala till september at any rate, but it can be pretty. and unlike english rain it doesn't necessarily go on forever at a gloomy rate. rajasthan is doable, but the south can be beautiful this time of year, and one would ideally leave the north for say a month later in the year, for the most part. there's tons of places down south that are absolutely stupendous around now.

It may rain, it may not. It may be a shower, it may be major flooding.

We really wish we could be more sure of our monsoon and when (if) it will happen, but we cannot.

Whole country has had that problem this year.
