Chennai: Antique furniture?

Well, as the title says - i am looking for some good quaint antique furniture. Would anyone know of some nice places one might visit.

We (my wife and I) have visited some places, but they are pretty expensive, and most of the stuff makes our budget seem like pittens.

so .. in a nutshell - we are lookinga t setting up home- and need to find some good furniture.

There's a shop in Chalmiers Road selling repro stuff. Probably expensive.

There's a yard in Royapettah where they have a lot of old stuff, but I can't remember the name or exact location (it's North of the Lloyds Road junction, but then most of the furniture shops are). It's been mentioned before on this site: apparently they polish stuff nicely for you once you've chosen it from the dusty heaps.

There's a classical flute player called Shashank. His dad deals in antique furniture, and their place is somewhere in CIT colony.

Half clues... probably not much help

Treasure Chest in Injambakkam is not as expensive as some others. They sell antiques and reproductions. Collections Unique (better known as Mermaid Swimming pools) on ECR has lovely items but totally overpriced. Sheiks is probably the one that another poster referred to on Chamiers road. They sell reproductions and are pricey. There are two other shops on ECR that sell used/antique furniture that do not cater to the tourist crowd. One is next to the former thrift store that went out of business. The other is further towards the city. I'm sorry, I don't remember their names - they are hole-in-the-wall places that refinish and fix up as they go; no showrooms, more like a workroom. I'm sure if you took a slow drive down ECR you could spot them, as their wares spill out into the street. There are other shops near Mahabalipuram (sp?) on ECR that advertise themselves as "art" shops but have furniture and antiques also. Good luck.

There is a company in Auroville which works mainly for export, hence probably too expensive in India. But for completeness sake I quote them here:

Mani's.... great! Thanks for that.

I seem to remember you have to look for the name on a gate, doesn't look like a furniture place outside!

Royapettah High Road, North of Lloyds Road (the furniture quarter).

Don't look for a shop: look for a gate! It's just a yard and a warehouse.

I'm fairly certain it is on the right, going towards Anna Salai (away from Lloyds Rd)

Well Mani's was sort of like a final resting place for furniture. They had tons of stuff! I could not believe it, it went on forever. I instead bought some lovely things at a shop down on ECR near the Akari checkpoint. I did find some other lovely things in the city but chose the ones closer to me. Thanks for your help!
