bus from Pondy to Chennai

I'm trying to take the bus from Pondicherry to Chennai and I've been told to get off at the Mandavelli Bus stand to go to the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram. Do all buses stop at this bus stand or did I misunderstand? I see there are 2 routes that the buses take so maybe only on of the routes stops at Mandavelli? Thank you for your help

Welcome to the site!

I do not know the bus routes, but I would guess that if a bus is going via Mandaveli Bust Station, then you'll see Adyar just prior to that.

It is certainly the right district for KYM.

Someone with better information will be along in a minute!

It would be easier for you to take any bus and get down at Adyar...and then from Adyar, Mandaveli is just about a few kilometers...not more than 4 KMs. You can either take a local town bus or pay a mini-ransom to the chennai autos.

Wait... Apparently the bus stops at Mandaveli Bus station. KYM is walkable from there.

I wish one of our bus experts would comment on those routes!

yes, depends which bus. but as nick says, it will pass through adyar just before mandaiveli. just ask the bus conductor or a friendly passenger if it'll hit mylapore/mandaiveli. at any rate, you can stay on past thiruvanmiyur bus depot, if it's goes on, for a good 2-3km before hopping off, as it'll be getting you closer to KYM no matter which route it's taking.

The two routes are as follows

1. NH 45A / NH 45 Route: Via Tindivanam, Maduranthakam, Chengalpattu, Tambaram, Kathipara and Koyambedu

2. ECR route: via Mamallapuram, Adyar, Guindy, Kathipara and Koyambedu

I have not heard of ether SETC (State Express transport corporation) PTDC (Pondicherry Tourism Development Corporation) buses touching mandaveli Bus stand.

The safest thing is to get down at Thiruvanmayur Bus Teminus and take one more bus to Mandaveli. One advantage is that you are taking a bus from its terminus and hence you can select your seat and sit comfortably.

Hi katmobrien,

Take a bus from pondicherry to tambaram (a suburb in chennai). Get down at tambaram and take a bus, 21G to 'mylapore tank'. Take an auto from there to kym, which is just a kilometer or two and don't budge for anything above Rs.40.

If you take the other route to Thiruvanmiyur, there are a number of bus routes to Mandaveli. From Mandaveli bus stop, take an auto to kym which is about a kilometer from there. Again, don't budge for anything above Rs.40 for the auto!

I guess you have already reached Chennai by now!

I disagree with the first suggestion: Tambaram is not a subburb of Chennai, so much as a separate town to the South of the airport. Whatever route the bus takes, it is going to touch on lots of places closer than Tambaram!

but... but... the OP has not been back since she posted the enquiry, so there seems no point in considering it any further

Hi nick,

Its better to get down at tambaram rather than kathipara or koyambedu because you can get a seat on the bus.

Good point, I admit --- and I also admit that, although I know Chennai well, I am not a bus traveller .

Neither Kathipara or koyambedu will not work for her as she is heading to Mandaveli.

Well, Tambaram is one option other than Thiruvanmayur bus terminus.

I would prefer to take a bus visa ECR and get down in Thiruvanmayur and board a bus to Mandaveli.
