I'm so happy I found this forum! I'm going to be in Chennai late July through mid October for a volunteer/internship program. I'm applying for a scholarship right now and have no idea what I should be budgeting for things like clothing, personal supplies, telephone and local transportation. Any suggestions?
Also, what's the weather like that time of year? Last edited by capt_mahajan : Apr 25th, 2008 at 00:22. Reason: merged sequential posts. |

In October there is the possibility of rain, and it shouldn't be too hot (depending, of course, on your definition of 'too hot'
}I don't think we can help on the budget side unless we know more about you and your lifestyle

I'm thinking maybe four outfits of simple, cheap, cool cotton; maybe one that's slightly nicer if I have to go do anything "official" for my internship. I'll be working with poor women, so I don't really want to flaunt that even my poor college student dollars go a bit further. I have to admit my complete ignorance as far as clothing (and most everything else, actually): is a salwar kameez what women tend to wear everyday?
What would a 10 min phone call back to the US run me? I understand Chennai is over the worst heat by August, but does that mean mid 90s or over a 100(F)? Thank you for that link; it's very helpful. : ) |

Traditional Chennai women tend to wear a saree, salwar is north Indian woman’s traditional wear, but it is widely accepted in Chennai. Chennai Weather |
