Buddhist temple, Chennai
I have learned that there is a Buddhist temple run by the Maha Bodhi Society on Kennets Lane near the Egmore train station. I've read that there are dharma classes every Sunday...
has anyone been there or does anyone know anything about it? much thanks! ![]() (just curious if anyone has any info about it before I get to chennai on friday... )

Interesting. I'd be surprised if there was no buddhist place here.
I'm sure that The Theosophical Society gardens will have a Buddhist shrine.

Hmm, I did not see one when I last visited. There is not much there to see for visitors anyway, except what some claim is the largest Banyantree (competing with the one in Kolkata's Botanical Garden). The Theosophical Society is very important for having promoted a renewed interest in Theravada Buddhism, esp thru the revival in Sri Lanka. But in itself it represents a rather poor idea of the Buddha's teachings. Which is why I would not expect a notable Buddhist shrine at their Gardens place. Buddhist "temples" (viharas) exist thru the sangha, the people living at a place. |
