Question anyone been to porur?

Hi

first i just want to say that i'm so excited about actually being able to become a member on this thing...i think i found the site just as it stopped allowing new members...but anyways..

i'll be living and working in chennai for a year...and i'll be living in porur for 6 months and i was just wondering how far it is from chennai (ie. how long will it take to get back into the city), how small or large porur is...and if anyone knows if it would be easy to find a flat or room to rent there.

thanks!

Porur

Hi

Porur is a suburb (not a separate town) of Chennai, a little outside the city limits, about 10 Kms from Mount Road (Gemini Flyover). It is a fairly well developed location and you should find all facilities with the possible exception of good roads and maybe water. Porur is well connected to the city with frequent, crowded buses.

Just for information, most, if not all of the major Chennai film studios, are located in the road (Arcot Road or NSK Salai) to Porur from Mount Road

I lived in Porur for years as I went to college there..the only Medical college in that area....I would loooove to help you out! I know the ins and outs of the area. Just drop me a email or message. Yes there are plenty of flats to rent there. Whats your budget? I live in Manapakkam about 10 minutes from porur. Porur is about 45 minutes-1 hour away from the central Mount Road part of the city of Chennai. Its a suburb as the other person said. Porur used to be small, its still not as "cosmopolitan" as other parts of the main city like Adyar or Nungambakkam High Road area. There arent any 5 star hotels or flashy stuff...its quieter though.. Just drop me a line, would love to help you! All the best to ya!

Porur is a suburb of Chennai city. Due to a medical college and hospital and also that some near by industries, it is expanding now.It takes about an hour to reach the city. But it is horrible to travel by bus during peak hours as the busess are too crowded.
There are some budget hotels and but no star hotels in that area. Due to a hospital and college, some residents offer acommodation in their homes or rent their houses if you intend to stay long. Suggest you to stay in a hotel at first for a few days and then hunt for a good house for longer stay.

have a nice trip and a comforatble stay.

If you needany further information, just send me a pm.

Ramachandra Institute? Unusual thing about this colege is that the divider between Chennai and Tiruvallur districts passes through it dividing the college campus into two disticts!

Porur junction is a mess in the evenings and mornings. If it rains too...better not to talk about it. Don't look for accomodations 'exactly' at the porur junction area. Try a few km away. Porur is actually the place where the Chennai's 'metro' nature slowly give way to the typical Tamil villages.

The mess at the Porur junction is more so becouse of this. That's the 'clash of civilisations'...the metro crowd and the village crowd literally makes a funny situation in this area....

Where're you going to work in Porur? SRMC ? or going to act in any of the Tamil movies made here

That market is interesting esp on sundays.
