Hi guys,

Myself and my wife are looking for decent tasmac shops pref around Besant Nagar/Adyar to buy some IMFL and other stuff. But the thing is most of the shops look really awful and a LADY cannot buy stuff from there.

So are there any shops at all in these areas? Any feedback about the TASMAC in Spencers? Have heard lots about it being decent but any personal feedback please.

We are from hyderabad and this is just killing us.Please help

Thanks

The key word in your post is "Decent", and without generalising to much--the answer is there are pretty much no decent tasmac / wine shops in madras. Most of them look like you should not patronise them, it is not a friendly way to purchase alcohol. If you must go,morning times seem to be a bit less hectic.
I found the Spencers outlet last year, but every visit since the door is down or it has stopped trading.-------Does anyone know if it is still open ? --pity cause that was a relatively "Decent" wine shop. 1 and 2 star hotels with bar attached are cleaner and nicer than the wine shops if the lady must go herself, although you will be charged their retail price.

Spencer's Chennai is not allowed to keep liquor. Actually, in TN only TASMAC is allowed to sell liquor.

And a women buying from TASMAC would be unadvisable. You will need to do this yourself.

Go on a weekday morning, it would be less crowded and you can see what all would be there.

P.S.: Velacherry TASMAC keeps Heineken.

Cheers!!

hi Aussie,

TASMAC shop in Spencers - No Clue. I have been just hearing about them not sure if the same is functioning.

Decent Pubs Around the Place:

Hotel Esthel:
Pirates Bar: Been there just once. It was on a friday. fully crowded but a decent place to have a drink.

Unlock Bar: Its in the first floor of Keys Hotel. Located in Kalakshetra Road. Oppostite to atrium flats. On a weekday it wud be a calm place to drink.

Good TASMAC Shops:
The one in tiruvanmiyur Junction. I am going to give the directions very clearly as there are three tasmac shops in that place. When you go from Adyar to tiruvanmiyur in LB Road, Cross the tiruvanmiyur Signal, move about 100 meters and take the U Turn. there would one shop on the immediate right, and when you come ahead about 50 meters you find another TASMAC shop on the left. That stores some good branded stuff.
(If you are going in a car, please try and park once you have made the U-Turn and then walk to the shop.)

The only solution I would suggest is to stock at your home. There are no other choices. Most of the times I pick half a case of beer or couple of Bottles of Whiskey. Last time picked half a case of Heineken.

Cheers
Ajay

Thank you very much Redninja and mave for your honest feedback.

Ajay, thank you so much for your extremely detailed response. I will check out the TASMAC shops you mentioned. But I would love to know the costlier alternative since I dont mind spending a bit more to get quality stuff/service. I wonder if posting email is ok here?

One can find a snow in the Snow World (Abirami Mall). So, snow is OK in Chennai. But not decent liquor shop

Brilliant-- so if one was luck enough to find a drinkable bottle of beer, i wonder if the people at "snow world" would let you chill and drink it in their snow. To be safe i think i will stick with the ice delivery's--nothing like a kingfisher on ice-------I mean 6 or 7 hours work to find a beer and then another hour or so to let the ice do it's work------the satisfaction-----Priceless.

I suppose people go to Pondy to buy booze.

Mave, I think the reference to "Spencer's" is to Spencer Plaza, not to the supermarket chain.

I do not know if this is true but I have heard a rumor that by 2 Oct all TASMAC shops in TN would be shut.

Or may be it's already well known, I have heard it now.

TN goes the Gujarat way then.

Prohibition!!

Of course it will be available in 5 stars but everywhere else .

Maybe you could tell us the source of this "Rumor" Considering how much the tasmac shops contribute to TN revenue , a lot of people would be very surprised to here this.------------Oh wait is their an election coming up?------This item always pops up at this time.
