Least is Chandigarh, soulless. I don't think I ever went to Paharganj as I usually avoid such like the plague. My favorite is a totally unknown Shangrila in India but the location dies with me. Failing that Hyderabad where I have all my relations except one who has come to study here. Its not the place but the people..

Talking Favorite place in India

I just returned to the States a little over a week ago and I miss India immensely. As such, to name a "favorite" spot is tough. Nevertheless, I will narrow it down to maybe 3-4 places:

1. Delhi -- Yes, I love the chaos, crowds and cacophany. Boy, do I miss it!
2. McLeodGanj (great place -- serene!)
3. Sankri -- Truly a "get away from it all" type of place!
4. Gwalior

Having said that, I have only been to a small part of India so far. I'm working on going back in November. With any luck, I'd love to move there. Does this mean I REALLY have to pick just one or two or three or four places as favorites????

Favourite Place - anywhere in the Himalayas..especially Sankri and Kedarkantha in Uttarkashi district, Uttaranchal.

Least Favourite spot - can't think of anyplace immediately. Felt Goa was too touristy. But, don't have it either.

My favorite: Nilgiris and Anamalai mountain ranges with its evergreen rain-forests and wild life.

Least favorite: crowded, abused, least maintained, chaotic, dry, hot and dusty cities.

I have visited Himalayas, but I love rainforest treks and so himalayas are no where near the rain forests of Nilgiris and Anaimalais in South India.

Favourite? SIKKIM

Least favourite? Delhi. But having said that, I'd certainly go back as there are some great museums there we didn't have time to see. And anywhere in India is better than not being in India - well, nearly everywhere.
