My wife and I are heading out in early January. We haven't booked our flight or hotel yet but that will come on Tuesday. However I am making a few prudent changes. I was going to make this a working trip since my company has an office up at the Mindspace but instead I'm just going to work over the hotel's internet connection. I'm not going to take any chances in leaving my wife by herself. I'm also thinking about a hotel near the airport instead of Juhu beach, but that isn't definite yet.

But we are a lock to go...

On Our Way

My fiance and I are set to fly into Delhi on January 3 and will be in India for a total of two months. Despite our family's pleas, we will still be going on our trip. We'll definitely be more cautious than usual. But we usually dress like the locals and keep a low profile. We continue to reassure our family (and ourselves) that we don't want to live our lives in fear.

It's extremely heartning to see all you future
Travellers REFUSE to allow these Cowardly and Evil
acts in Mumbai to Effect their Travel Plans to India, especially those visiting Mumbai.

Despite some Bombings in Bangalore not too long ago I had no hesitation in Going there to fullfill
my dream of attending a Test Cricket match there.
I'm soooo Glad I did as it is was a memorable
experience I'll never Forget,it was just not the
Cricket that was special But the many friends I made, both locals and other Cricket fans from O'Seas.

Happy & Safe Travels to all of you.

Thumbs up

Those pics of yours always have me laugh, Vandy (the middle one here in particular has me grinning still, not that the others don't look any less happy. Is that an IM gang to the right, or just with friends of yours? Looks very happy either way.) You do seem to know how to enjoy yourself there!

Big-up, & all that

(ps OK It's too early to say, and/but I've hinted at it before, but I can't hold my tongue anymore: I'm looking into visiting India early next year, so a month or two from now. If I manage to, Mumbai should probably be my landing point, and depending on what flights look like, not because of any bravery but it would just make sense in view of my travel plans, and I'm also simply much looking forward to it, a touch of sadness tho' there will be likely to be. Colaba and the wider city has been very fresh in my mind of course, as it will have been to many.

If I do manage (there could well be some practical reasons why I can't), it would be my first India trip since I've joined this site (and I'll be keeping a keen eye on many factual updates to my years of rambling!), and if there's one thing I promise it's we'll have a ff'ing ball OK, with Mumbaikars as in many another place, our current on-the-road regulars included, etc.!)

Hi there,

If you are going to Kovalam to experience the Beach thing you may want to consider Goa as Kovalam
is a Long Way to go with a couple of young kids,
that is unless you want to experience other aspects of Kerala.

Both Goa & Kovalam are very similar.

Pretty sure you can Fly Delhi - Goa direct.

All the Best

I'm unfortunately cutting my trip short. I've been in India for a month. I was suppose to fly out of Mumbai but now I've got to switch things up a bit and get to Chennai... I don't know why, really. You think if anything, it would be safer now then it was.

why on earth would you cancel a trip to India!?

There has never been a better time to experience India. The resilience, the better bargains as there may be fewer tourists like us, the unending chaos and sunshine.

I won't be in Mumbai but if I were - my first stop would be Leopald's and the two hotels - via local train.

As for the sensationalists: "they wanted to see British and American passports". Fooeey. Apart from one British man's soundbite to a CNN (hah) camera, there has been zero evidence by any other survivors validating this claim. I don't buy it.

I'm sewing my American passport to my sleeve and will flaunt it every chance I get in beautiful India - so there.

Stay away if you want a 100% safe world where the bees sing and the fairies dance on your lawns, darlings. All others - pack your bags and enjoy India.

OK, I confess, I am scared!

Hello Indiamikers,

We will be traveling to India for the first time in three weeks and although Mumbai is not in our itinerary, I am scared, shaking, hiding under the bed!

My husband, a British man who grew up with the IRA in Manchester, England, is unshaken by the news, but I am very worried.

What is the overall consensus here? Anyone traveling to India this month? Is everyone carrying on with their upcoming travel plans? I need honest reassurance, should we go or should we postpone our trip?

I have planned and dreamed about this trip for so long, but now I am scared…

I noticed that.

I've only heard ONE person say that they actually heard the terrorist doing that. It was then parroted in the press. There has never been any real confirmation. I don't believe any information has been officially released on that...

BTW, I'm looking for bargains. I have read several news articles that the Mumbai tourist industry is going to take a huge hit. I hate to sound opportunistic but I imagine there are going to be some really good hotel deals in the coming days/weeks...

Nah, its a big country and the risk is rather spread out. The big thing is other people freaking out about you going. Now that will be unnerving..

I wish those bargain bin prices would extend to flights from JFK/EWR!!! I'm still in denial about my trip being cancelled so I've been bargain hunting for a deal the past few days. I am still hoping I find something reasonable so mayyybe I can go for just two weeks.

I'm so happy to hear everyone's continuing on with their trips in one way or another.
