What amazing and heart warming responses! I've been in Kerala the past 3 months (with three more on my itinerary.) My daughter flies into Cochin (direct from Dubai)in 10 days. I did check here itinerary after calming down from the shock a bit this morning and if it had her in Mumbai I doubt I would have asked her to try to change and I doubt she would have if I did ask. Tragedy can strike anytime, anywhere. We are both fair Americans and have had much time since 9/11 to see many Americans become fearful and anxious (thanks largely to the fear-generating response of the soon-ex-government)and despaired as they meekly tossed away their rights and freedoms. As others have said, we feel giving in to the fear the terrorists (or unscrupulous governments) wish to generate is not the answer.

Dominoes, Chad: Wouldn't it be amazing if we could gather together a huge group of foreigners who love their freedoms and love India at one time in Mumbai as a showing of solidarity, compassion, peace and to show that terror doesn't work. Whatcha got planned for New Years Eve?

Hmmm. I am doing Vipassana course in Sarnath 18-29 December and staying in Varanasi for a while after that, so will be in Varanasi for New Years. But we can keep in contact via PM function. Not sure when if I will go to Bombay, but I'm thinking about it.

I am due to fly to Mumbai on dec 2nd. This will be my first time visiting India , I also have a flight from mumbai on the 18th dec , these flights are not connected. I am so confused as to what to do , or what i will be able to do. I am apprehensive but not as apprehensive as the others in my group are ( or my family ) am i silly to still consider flying to Mumbai? would it be just as silly to try rerouting my flight to chennai? The others seem to be scared off of India altogether now my heart goes out to all in mumbai right now

I saw one recent mention of it here yes, in relation to the current Mumbai attacks. First time I heard of it. That by no means guarantees I've not just simply missed earlier reports on it of course, and I can't say I keep a close eye on Goan affairs.

It would be a very obvious target of course. And there have been scares there over the past years (a year or two ago I believe, and off the top of my head) during the holiday season, that as far as I know never materialized (thwarted or hoaxes? Who's to say.) So I wouldn't know what to advise.

But anyway I'm just hoping that one comment to that effect I saw here won't now become a self-propagating thing, by means of "I have heard on IndiaMike that..." If there have been real threats issued, maybe someone in the know can provide some news sources to corroborate it, which must then surely exist.

I flew out of Mumbai at 17:00 yesterday afternoon, and knew nothing of the attacks until I arrived home late last night (in the UK). Have to say my proximity to the attacks (we'd arrived into CST yesterday morning, and headed straight to Leopold's for breakfast) made me stop and think about visiting India again in the near future. Admittedly, I don't have a trip planned like so many of the posters here, but for those considering a trip to India over the course of the next year, would the responses be so overwhelmingly positive in terms of plans to travel?

I've been to India twice this year, and have another trip planned for February. Two weeks ago I had a meal in Leopold's. Almost every city I've visited has been hit by some sort of terrorism (Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mumbai, Delhi) but that's not going to stop me going.

Machadinha, sorry while I did see references to Goa on this forum I should also have added that I read similar on other forums on the internet. I imagine most people will stick to their plans as that's the tone that seems to be coming across on this thread anyway which is great and very reassuring.

Miseniaodhe, Don't let it bother you.

As one irish person to another let's support the victims in this and not let the terrorists win. It wasn't all that long ago that this sort of thing was right on our doorstep (not in the same scale) Terrorism's goal is to spead fear, and in completely disproportionate doses.

I'm definitely going, but not until feb 2009 I'd go right now if I could!

I did not cancel but my wife insists that I do not go there again. She is very afraid for my health and safety every time I travel. She will not go the middle East or Asia with me. Europe is no problem though. I guess it is Vietnam for me, oh well

I'm flying to Mumbai in four days - on monday - for a five weeks trip - I'm most certainly not cancelling my flight, but I am shocked. Terrorist attacks are a constant - very small - risk, but whereas previous attacks came over as seemingly random and just something you have to live with - the fact that western tourists were the focus this time has me spooked. The fact that the series of attacks apparently started in Leopold makes a strong statement.

Do think I'll be cancelling the reservation I made for my first two nights in the city and will probably straight head out. Don't know - I'll see how things evolve. Think it'll just be too stressful at the moment.

Expecting a telephone call from my parents any moment now - Belgian news just opened with a fifteen minutes item on the attacks.

Thanks Pigdog, I guess you're right I'm just getting the feeling i'll be getting alot of tuts from home (silly girl bla bla ..) my boyfriend and sister now seem very unkeen to hit India at all and are talking about rerouting flights ( which is going to be a dose and costly) etc whereas I don't really want to go changing all our plans now.. I guess we'll see over the next few days...hopefully India India on Wednesday
