Why do you travel alone/ solo?
Just a simple question; Why do you travel alone?
@Mods: I'm not very sure if this is the appropriate section. Please move it, if required.

It could depend on many different factors, most of which should not be a concern to other travelers. Additionally, single woman who answer might get flagged for further queries through PM. Sorry, don't like the premise of this thread.

Well, some of us require copious amounts or stretches of solitude and quiet time..."think time" or "ponder time"...the opportunity to be at peace with one's own thoughts, the ability to entertain one's self...the simplicity of having only one's own thoughts and desires/whims to govern where one goes, what one does....to me, this is very important when you are moving from place to unfamiliar place at times.
I like being able to make all the travel choices/decisions on my own...remaining independent and not having to deal with others' moods or habits. Not having to explain why I wish to eat at the same place for days on end or stay in one place for awhile or move on to the next adventure.
Not sure I could ever travel with anyone else again, after tasting the true freedom of going "whichever way the wind blows" whenever I darned well feel like it! It would have to be a very good match if indeed I ever broke the habit of traveling totally solo.

Same reason why I do other things alone as well.
If I waited for my family or friends to have the time, desire or money to travel where and how I want to, I would never leave my house.
Power, independence and autonomy, I have a very strong desire to do things and go places of my own time and choosing.
My ideal travel partner would be someone who would be ok with seperateing for a few hours or even days.

Me, I just like to go my own way. Though am not at all adverse to tagging along if it so turns out.

Because no matter how big a group I go with, yet somehow, for reasons unknown to me, everyone in group says that we are not entitled to, and do not deserve your wisdom...and I find myself alone!
Sometimes, the joy that the Daybreak brings, is unparalleled!
What DaniMontana said so elegantly.
I don't have to compromise on the itinerary. I can spend as much time as I want photographing something without annoying or inconveniencing anyone. I don't have to keep up with anyone who walks faster than me or conversely hold them up with my turtlelike gait. I don't have to listen to complaints that things aren't the way someone else expected or be embarrassed by anyone's boorish behavior. I'm not held back by anyone's food or germ phobias or fear of getting lost. None of my friends want to go to the places that interest me.
Also, it forces me to be more outgoing and talk to strangers, which oddly enough I find hard to do when I'm in my own country but easier when I'm abroad. I end up talking more to locals than to travel partners. People find a solo traveler more approachable, and I get all the attention!

It's like a good hand of cards or the roll of the dice...who will I meet today? It's up to me and only me.
It gives me a chance to fine fine tune my intuition, so that I can jump in to any adventure...
It gives me the ability to choose (or not choose) companions, and be completely selfish in only entertaining those who are seredipitously on the same wave length as me in some tiny moment in time.
What a thrill to meet totally like-minded souls!
Did I mention I like travelling solo?

It might be the best of times or the worst of times...but it's the only time you've got!

I don't mind occasional company on a train ride, or a stroll through a town, but since I tend to go off the beaten path, I don't often find someone going my way who is interested enough, in the same things that hold my attention, to spend some time with.
