Which is the Best State Government Tourism Department in India
As tourist most of us would have had to interact in various levels with the tourism departments in the states where we travel to.
They normally pitch in with the following
- Information Centres/kiosk/helpdesk
- Information Pamplets/booklets
- Direction boards
- Tourism Police
- General Infrastructure maintaninece
- Advertising and Marketing
- Complaints redressal
- so on and so forth
They also work closely with the tourism development corporatios of the respective state (which normally is a commericial setup), that both the bodies are considered synonymous.
So what has been your experiences with these government departments/agencies in your travel. What are you major complaints and what has been major help from them you received? Overall narrate your interesting experiences with them and rate the best ones above in the poll.
I have given 10 states only as that is the poll limit, would have loved to include all states, so please dont ask "why not state X?

GMVN and KMVN have good website, but their offices are BAD.
The staff is very less trained, they dont know properly about uttaranchal too.
For hotel bookings they'll ask you to fax their HO, and if you insist that they do it, they'll do the fax, and will say they'll revert back to you on getting confirmation from their HO but they'll not do so, you only have to keep calling them.
emails will not be replied
Packages for 4 chaar dham that their HO makes are good, offices do bookings only for those packages, no online booking arrangements are there in their offices, everything manual (and GMVN had got award for its website)
Himachal offices are much better, everything is online, except transportation
Kerala tourism i felt rates offered by them are way too high
Goa tourism hotel rates are rightly priced, properties are good, havent been to any of their offices or Sales Agents
MP tourism offices are good, website is good too, used their office long back dont know whether they have computerised hotel booking in their offices or not

I have good experiences with both the Madhya Pradesh Tourist Board and the Rajasthan Tourist board though it is patchy one branch office may not be as good as the other!!
For those of you who want to take a look at the various State Tourist boards take a look at the link below all the state tourist websites on a handy clickable map.
