Simple yet difficult question:
If you had the choice to live - say for one year - in any place in India, which place would it be? And why? I can't really decide myself... for some reason Mumbai keeps popping into my head. None of that lazy beach life for me, I like the big city bustle. Sometimes. |

For me this is an easy one although it may suprise you all a little!!(I can hear the echoes of PALOLEM from here)
I would live in or around Munnar!! Pleasant climate for most of the year, wildlife everywhere not a long trek for a few days on the coast, hillwalking, hundreds of KMs of country roads to explore! lakes, waterfalls, cheese Now if my Numbers up on the lottery............. |

Either Mysore or Mammalipuram. Still considering this question.

Around Bangalore, for me, as I have been associated with stuff there most of my life, and back to California during the hot!
that's actually my plans for the next 20 years, starting next year, unless I get laid off sooner.

the 'one place' makes the question difficult for me -- seems to me that the places I particularly like have seasonal qualities to them and I'd have to 'change up' at some point to make a year in India attractive to me. I like reasonable weather and being around water, be it ocean, lake, or river so Goa is dandy in the winter and I'm sure I could find a place I liked in the Almora region for the rest of the year.
Long term though, despite not working and time no drawback, I'm happy with spending 8 months or so per year here in BC -- weather ok, house and toys paid for, lots to do. Nice to keep access to our medical plan as well. Kind of wish I could afford two tickets to India a year so I could get to some of the places in the north that I'd like to, though. |

Way north in HP. Love the hills, love the mountains, love the people. Want to go to Dharamsala and the great mountains and valleys north of Shimla .. so what the hell, why not stay a year?

I would pick a small village near Jabalpur in central India, then try and stay with the same family for the year.
It would be fascinating to see how they cope with everything Mother Nature throws at them, and to see the effect extreme weather conditions have on their lives.

I'm from India, but if I were not ...
I would dtay in some hill station, like mussoorie or Shimla. The people there are much more reserved and laid back. PLus there are already many many foreigers living there already.
