Bangalore is comfortable 26 degrees C. Delhi was very hot at 42C.
Look what showed up in our backyard yesterday - a snapping turtle. sperehealfe risked life and limb to approach it and take its photo.

Lonesome George died yesterday which makes us veryvery sad.

Yes, sad news indeed about Lonesome George. Earlier this month, I discovered an increasingly rare 'Wood Turtle' near a local bog. In memory of LG, I post a picture of (did not risk life & limb when plunking it up on the rock for a photo op, as this species is as docile as they come) ....

A little cooler, which is good, as our bedroom AC has broken down ...again.
The night before last, we splurged on electricity, running all three ACs all night to cool the house as much as we could in readiness for a 9am to 6pm power cut. It worked pretty well and the house was reasonably comfortable all day --- especially as we now have an "inverter" (battery backup) capable of running a fan or two all day.

Only 28 degrees Celsius today, down from 33 degrees in the shade yesterday.
(No A/C here ...
.) I am happy not to be in Athens, where it is currently 40 degrees.

Indian temps here soon -- predicted high tomorrow is 105 (41C).... we are also in drought.
next week is our national holiday of Independence Day when many cities have fireworks displays -- cities have started to cancel them, too dry to take any chances with brush fires.....
a Chicagoland summer -- in the 70s one day, over 100 the next....

you can bet that people in Colorado wish it would flood.... the state is on fire.
Colorado fires:
"Throughout the interior West, firefighters have toiled for days in searing, record-setting heat against fires fueled by prolonged drought. Most, if not all, of Utah, Colorado, Wyoming and Montana were under red flag warnings, meaning extreme fire danger.
The nation is experiencing "a super-heated spike on top of a decades-long warming trend," said Derek Arndt, head of climate monitoring at the National Climatic Data Center..."

Been a lovely year so far in the Czech wine country. As i type this it is midnight and 30 degrees. sweaty.
Back in Australia, cold and a bit windy, streets deserted after 6pm, a big change after arriving back from holiday in Thailand last week.
Husband in Delhi, 40 degrees plus and still no monsoon there. Would still rather be in India!
