21 C.San Diego , California coastal region is in the "May gray / June gloom" period, a thick "marine layer" cloud cover which keeps the air cool and damp within a few miles of the coast, but will yield to bright cloudless sunshine between about 5 and 15 miles (24 km) inland—the cities. This phenomenon is known as microclimate which characterizes one of the most pleasant climates in the world. ![]() Last edited by passages : May 1st, 2008 at 21:03. Spring freshet in full gear and many roads have been closed and wildlife displaced due to associated flooding. Warmer now at about 14c, yet still dipping below freezing at night and ground/garden beds still a bit frosted.

I know how you feel. Yesterday's Met Office high for Chennai was 42; a private on-line weather station shows 43.
Mrs N had a number of errands that had to be done. Most unusually for me, I sat in the car with the engine running and the AC on. I'll not be going far from an AC machine for the next few weeks! |

Mumbai in May
From all the weather reports, it looks like Mumbai is the least hot place to be from all the metros. We Bombaywallas always crib about the high humidity but to be fair, it has not been that bad this summer. Mornings and evenings are still pleasant with the sea breeze, at least in the western part of the city, and afternoons indoors are tolerable with just a fan. Unless one is roaming around in the streets in the direct sun which can certainly get quite hot, it is still bearable in the shade, and certainly in the air conditioned confines of the office !
I expect it will get more humid as the days go by but then it is May after all. |

I have to correct my previous post as the met office said it was *only* 38,5 C yesterday.. But because it is more humid it felt the same as week.. hot. Last night at around 22.30 when I was making my bed on the roof I felt a slight drizzle... Luckily it was over in a minute or two and I could still sleep outside.
Today, supposedly is the same as yesterday, under 40c, but it feels very hot becaus eof the humidity (77 or so)... Nine more days and I will be enjoying North European sea climate again: 20C today.. Hope it lasts! :-) |
