Kidsan - sounds very much like our conditions here at present. And interestingly, I have just yesterday met a woman from Mauritania who is an expert in camels and camel milking! She is here linking up with an NGO concerned with camels.
Doesn't sound too good for the mango lovers, or the farmers this year...

Sounds like very sad Mango news, both for the farmers and for those of us who have been waiting patiently and hungrily.

Well, i hope you get some crop this year C'n'B.

Here in africa mangoes are starting to appear in the supermarket but they are small and green. Once it gets going though you can hardly move for mangoes . Have youtried making curries with pureed fresh mango and coconut milk? highly recommended

Hmm, makes me think that a 'mango recipe' thread might not be a bad thing...

Just goes to show, there's an NGO for anything you can think of

I've never brought myself to try camel's milk. I think it is that people say it's salty that puts me off but maybe i shall give it a go on this visit...

It's Autumn here and the weather is glorious. Cool in the early mornings but beautiful warm and sunny during the day. Next week daylight savings stops and we turn the clocks an hour forward. I don't really like winter and the fact that it gets darker earlier.

Not tried your curry recipe but I can recommend "Shirkany" (Please excuse my phonetic translation from Kannada ), basically it's mango, banana, little gur (unrefined sugar), clove, a little cinnamon....heat it all up and eat with hot chapatis, mmmmmm.

And so as not to lose the momentum of the thread..........it's another gorgeous sunny evening in Karnataka.

OT - Kidsan - no it's not salty, it's actually o.k. I hate any sort of milk but if I mix in ovaltine or something then it's drinkable and doing this I can't tell the difference between it and cow's milk. These people make a good camel milk icecream as well, but in the way of NGO's, sometimes functioning, sometimes not..

Just had the best mango, this season, this morning at breakfast. Here in Bangkok, we start seeing Mango in March but the prices are quite high. However, street prices are less than half of what they are in supermarkets, between 30-40Baht per kilo. Sweet, plump, and, juicy.

We have had no rain here for at least a couple of weeks but that is not unusual for this time of year. Rainy season begins in June, but, intermittent rains are not uncommon. We could use some as the temps have been around 34, my threshold for comfort.

Aishah what other milk will we think of next ! I remember reading way back that cleopatra used to bathe in donkeys milk - was supposed to be good for complexion! And by the way the weather has turned very humid and sultry today, likely to rain later.

Talking Packing..

Packing for our trip to Darjeeling for my birthday. So excited, mostly about the toy train. Slightly overcast during the day here in Gurgaon, so a reprieve from the sun. Quite windy last night, reminded me of the way the air smells just before the thunderstorms back home in Canada.

Lucky you! Sounds very nice there - I am sitting inside with a raging sandstorm, huge winds and you can barely see in front of your nose. All hatches battened down - the only thing is it is having the effect of slightly cooling us down, because the sun is no longer visible!
